"How can a man call himself 'King of Kings' if there are no KIngs to rule?"
- historian Lykar Mallistos
In the feudal system of Pelegon, the Houses Major, also called Houses Royal, or Great Houses, are the noble houses which directly rule the Kingdoms of the Pelegonic Empire as direct vassals of the Shahanshah.
The Houses Major hold titles of royalty, ruling as kings and queens of the twelve realms which come together with the Imperial Domain to form the Empire. They retain permission to use dynastic numbers and utilize numberings from before the Conquest. (For example, the first monarch of House Orthed following the conquest to be named Othello was Othello V, as there had been five Orthed monarchs named Othello before the Conquest).
The Houses Major are served by the Houses Minor, who swear fealty to a House Major.
At present there are ten Houses Major. For convenience, the House Imperial has also been included.
