The War of the Feathers was a civil war in Pelegon fought between the Golds, led by Shahanshah Unknown and the Violets, led by Shahanshah Unknown. 

The war was a succession crisis sparked by the sudden death of Unknown. Vidorion was the Shahanshah's eldest child and lawful heir, but he was rash, cruel, lusty, and greedy. Oderion's second son, Maron, was believed to be much more suited to reign. He was wise, strong, just, caring, and humble. Oderion announced that he had named Maron as his heir and summoned the lords of the Empire to Arcanopolis to swear oaths of fealty to Maron. Before the lords arrived to the capital, Oderion died suddenly of apparent illness and Vidorion and his faction hastily crowned him Shahanshah. 

Maron was able to escape the Imperial Palace and fled to make preparations for war.
