The trail running between Orbaal and Kaldor, so called because of the valuable shipments of furs brought south from Orbaal each spring. The trail passes through the range of the Taelda, who will at times solicit “gifts” for safe passage. An optional trail between Kaldor and Orbaal is Noron’s Way, which lies further east. See Noron’s Keep for description.
Fur Road
For centuries, people from Hârn’s northernmost reaches have trekked across the hilly, wooded Nuthela [I3+] wilderness to trade with the settlements of the Kald River valley. The route, known as the Fur Road, is mostly rough trail through the ranges of the unpredictable Anoa and Taelda tribes. Wild beasts and natural hazards are a constant threat and casualties are common.
Along its 160 or so leagues, the varied terrain of the Fur Road poses many obstacles. The pass through the Jahl Mountains south of Geldeheim is steep and has several challenging river crossings. After Pethwys, the road climbs more than 1,400 feet as it crosses the Vegar Pass, then makes a treacherous descent to Leriel [H3]. The road itself is less extreme south of Leriel, but barbarians and Gargun keep travelers on their guard as they ford the Anoth River and Ovien River [I3+] and traverse the hilly forests of Nuthela [I3+] and the foothills of the Felsha Mountains. Road conditions improve and traffic increases near Olokand. The main road continues south to Tashal, where it converges with the Genin Trail and Salt Route, while a spur reaches east to Gardiren to connect the Fur Road to the Silver Way and Noron’s Way.
