In many ways the first amongst the successor states, Estivan was the part of the Westlands most clearly carrying the torch of The Empire. Originally ruled by the last surviving branch of the Azenari, the Kestari, it held a prestigious position amongst the states of the west. Its strong connection with Eastmarch, as well as populous cities made commerce bloom and old imperial culture hold.

What only furthered its prestige were the Wyvern Guard, famed across the Westlands as peerless warriors, harkening back to the heroes from before The Fall.

To the north some of the tribes of the Blinding Peaks are keen to raid the rich Westlands, but none have ever breached the Rosen Spires. Meanwhile the local dwarven holds are keen to trade and cooperate against the monsters and savages alike.

Unfortunately this did not last, when Arlak the Despoiler invaded the Westlands following the Desolation of Eastmarch Estivan was to be the first target. After the tragic Battle of Heroes' Isle the last vestige of the Azenari was extinguished and central Estivan left at the mercies of Arlak's hordes. While they left the north of the Kingdom relatively untouched, instead turning their gaze towards Rivtal and Visdria.

In the absence of a successor the Legate of the Wyvern Guard was made regent, and he and his successors have held that position since. Currently the position is held by Legate Estahar.

The loss of Eastmarch and the amount of destruction in Estivan were so great however that even today, so many decades after Arlak's defeat it has yet to recover.
