The Imperial Successor State in the Westlands furthest removed from Llewynfrid, Rivtal has always been at threat by the Dragnil tribes of the Western Blinding Peaks as well as the Human nations to its west. Left vulnerable in the decades following The Fall, many of its warriors dead defending the Westlands, it came to three powerful lords to decide the lands future. the lords of Griffinnook, Vistaden, and Covenstor came together and forged The Covenant, forming what would become Rivtal. Once every decade the three lords meet to select a steward, their representative who is responsible for affairs that affect the whole of the land.
During Arlak the Despoiler's invasion of the Westlands Rivtal suffered greatly, as a sizable part of Arlak's army, under the command of Orson the Insane, marched across the land scarring it with deadly magic. They then began what would come to be known as Siege of Three Dawns. While the invasion was eventually defeated the Weeping Scar remains as its reminder.
Today Rivtal is a somewhat prosperous region, even striking some trade with old enemies over the Trail of Stars.
