The briny odor of fish and sea spray blankets the outer reaches of The Docks. Heavy timber lies atop massive leather and pitched-fabric bladders to create the stable base of the outstretched fingers of the docks, providing mooring space for thirty or forty ships. Close to the shore, built atop heavy fir pilings, is a large, open port square. Around the square, a series of warehouses and three, squat customs houses stand to create somewhat of a border between the docks and the area known as the Underhang. In the center of the square, a three-story hexagonal building houses the dockmaster’s offices and the Evershoal Port Authority headquarters.
