Bosaadak (boh-SAH-DAHK) sits on the western coast of Bosaa and is its largest city by far. It is partially visible as the island is approached from the seas. Large, towering structures stretch out into the water and connect to floating docks, moored some fifty yards from shore. The towering structures feature a series of large elevators that raise and lower goods between the docks and the city’s lowest levels. As one moves up from the docks and farther into the jungle, the full majesty of the city becomes clear. Eighty feet above the jungle floor, a city of expansive buildings built into and around the massive trees. Three distinct tiers of the city can be seen, rising toward the center of the city, which is built around Xhurna (JOUR-nah), which roughly translates as the Gods’ Pillar. Multi-level buildings are built upon thick supports that stretch between the arboreal giants of the jungle, with sturdy bridges connecting areas of the city.
Bosaadak is the seat of power among the peoples of the Koumazot Islands. The current ruler, or Haskal (HAH-shkal) is Saba Coll (SAY-bah coal), a tall, strong lizardfolk woman who has held control of the islands for the past twenty years. She is supported by a council of advisors, the numbers of which vary based on who is trusted or needed at the time. The political operation is mostly to provide protection and support for the populace. The Haskal is also sought out for advice on who and when to trade the goods of the island.
Recent months, however, have brought strife to the islands. Trade with nearby islands and the mainland has all but halted and support was cut off for the smaller settlements around Bosaa. Complaints about the cessation of support have been met with banishment to the jungle floor, which for many is akin to a sentence of death. This has resulted in those settlements setting off from Bosaa to seek refuge elsewhere, most notably, the mainland. Many of the refugees’ ships, however, were tracked down and scuttled by pirates at the direction of Emmitt Staten and his puppeteer, Kallista Kaine.
