Chapter 20: The Beast from the Depths

With Vishaz Deadbomb dead and the Slagbot stopped, the party still needed to figure out what to do with the rest of the goblins -- and how to make their escape back to Bloodhoof Village in one piece.

To this end, Zachariah Hallowhold donned his faithful hat of disguise once more, and this time took on the guise of Deadbomb himself. The disguise was clever enough that he easily managed to pass as the gnarled old goblin, and with this power in hand he headed back for the entrance to the mines. There he encountered the goblins that the party had previously manged to sneak past, and convinced them all to leave.

By telling them that they were all fired. All of them! Every last goblin at the camp. This whole operation had been a giant failure!

Shook and visibly upset, the three goblins made their way back down to the rest of the mining camp in the hills down below. As for the party, Bwonsamdi again made his apperance, though this time to prompt a little side excursion for them. He had been sensing the presence of a powerful creature, delving somewhere further down into the mines.

That somewhere soon turned out to be the same abandoned parts that Belt had been trying to waylay the goblins off to. The party took some time to rest, and then carefully made their way past a makeshift barricade that the goblins had erected to rather explicitly block this part of the mines off.

It all looked empty, but Gan Jedi and his tiger Kimbul could tell something was going on. The troll tried to warn the rest of the party, but all too suddenly they were ambushed by a massive Shale Spider, several of them covered in the petrifying webs it spewed forth as it emerged!

Kelrith Shalith pressed forth to stand as a bastion between the spider and the party, with Jay Lin Qilan standing to flank, while Qalia Sugarfuel and Zachariah used their spells to even the odds. Gan had himself set to bring the monster down, and just as the Shale Spider down, Bwonsamdi swooped on in to claim its essence and steal it back to the Other Side.

The party's end of the deal had been done, and he was ready to follow through with a favour for them once the appropriate time would come. Or so he claimed.

Further on beyond the Shale Spider, the party found a narrow path through the rock that seemed to lead deeper down underground. Was this where the monster had emerged from? What would await them further down below? For the time being, the party chose not to do anything about this; instead they left the cave well as it was and  made ready to return back to Bloodhoof.

On the way, as they passed through the mining camp, they readied themselves to move carefully so they would not be spotted. What they found there, though, was a full-out revolt between the goblins who had just recently been told they would be without a job. Many of them were trying to simply get their belongings and get out of there, before the situation would turn any uglier.

So there was no challenge for the party to slip past, return to their mounts, and make a clear exit for the village. Come during the night, Gan took it on him to hunt for supplies -- during which he encountered a flock of tallstriders, some of which he managed to take down, though the leader of the group looked like a ferocious beast not to be trifled with. It looked as though it had seen its share of hunters in the past, and might have even had some notoriety between the local Outrunners.

That same night, Jay Lin also made her decision to depart from the group. Off into the sunset like a blazing pandaren on her trusty yak. She left the party with a number of things to remember her by; including a staff affixed to resemble a spoon; a small jade figurine of a raccoon; a good month's supply of tea, as she had been provisioning them with for the past while; and a bound book telling the history of Pandaria -- curiously with her inserted as the key protagonist.

The next morning after, the party continued their journey off to Bloodhoof Village, if a bit poorer in number now with Jay Lin's departure from the group.
