Chapter 25: The Windfury Witches

The following morning, after the party had alerted Ruul Eagletalon and his Braves that the time had come to strike, the party awoke to a thundering storm and the blaring sounds of tauren horns. Peering out from their hiding spot, they could see harpies flying away from the lair to meet the Braves out on the fields.

Clearly the distraaction was working, and the party did not waste any time to seize this opportunity now that they had it.

As they made their way toward the harpy lair itself, strong gusts of wind were blowing down through the ravines, almost threatening to sweep the party along with. And when they eventually reached the harpy lair itself, they could see the great many number of traps that had been set up in case of intruders.

They dealt with the few harpy guards on watch without any trouble, and then from there worked their way deeper into the maze-like sprawl where the harpies were nesting. Magical runes of warding were placed about, made to spring on anyone not a harpy -- and from a great cloud that rumbled ominously overhead, lightning struck with such precision that the party had no doubts that it had to be the witches' work.

With Kelrith Shalith and Servius Felheart in the front, and Gan Jedi, Qalia Sugarfuel, and Zachariah Hallowhold just a leg behind, they fought their way forward as the harpies still remaining in their lair swarmed into action to stop them. The greatest challenge came when they tried to make for the lair's very heart; the way went up along a steep slope, spiralled around and then toward a towering peak concealed by that same rumbling cloud.

Within it, the party could hardly see their own arms ahead of them. The harpies tried to lay ambushes, but were thwarted every time. When they eventually reached the eye of the storm, they found the two Windfury witches ready to strike. Kelrith and Servius stood themselves like a bulwark against the harpies and their spells, while Qalia rained fire and brimstone upon them

And once the witches were slain, the party needed only end the battle. They took the harpy eggs, and with magic drew the harpies' attention with an ultimatum; either the harpies would take their eggs and flee, or they would all be erradicated. Not long after, the harpies retreated. They swooped back in for their eggs, and then seemed to set course northward.
