Tribes of the Archipelago

A People Separate

The tribes of the Archipelagos consist of the Kothar, the Sea Kobolds, and the Papa'i, as well as some members of the Tilsin subspecies. Each island is a self-governed body, typically run by the dominant tribe of the island. Trade between the islands is rare, as most of these tribes spend their days making sure they stay stable and alive, and rarely do they achieve the level of civilization that the Petisse Tolgalen kobolds have achieved on their island.

History of the Archipelago Tribes

Churning Archipelago

It's said that the islands were once settled by strange and magical beings that were said to have attuned themselves to each island, and could call upon great forces of nature. And then the dragons brought their armies of kobolds from the skies to the south, and settled the islands. A great war erupted as the dragons were fought and killed, as the kobolds themselves soon found themselves enlightened by the beauty of the lands, and the other local tribes joined them to strike down their oppressors.

Remnants of draconic rule still dot the islands from this period. As well, the integration of these mythic creatures spawned the Chimaera, who spawn now and then from the various tribes, the magic in the bloodlines of the assimilated people resurfacing for unknown reasons.

The Eruption

The civilization that blossomed in the islands soon collapsed when the people were struck by a titanic eruption that vaporized the largest island in the chain, sending a chilling cloud cover over everything. The sea kobolds were spawned from this crisis, when they fled underwater thanks to a blessing from the gods of nature. The remaining tribes of the islands survived through vicious bloodshed to protect their meager resources. This dark age only ended a century ago, with some of the remaining island tribes still remembering ancient grudges with each other.
