In the days before The Shattering, the Dwarves were renowned across the lands as masters of science and technology, their pursuit of which rendered them pioneers in both warfare everyday inventions alike. It was the Dwarves' alliance with the Twin Kingdoms of Terra and Kayithran that allowed them to rise to such a position of might and authority during the height of The Godswar, and it was by their hand and inventions that many lords rose and fell during that age of endless war. Originally, the Dwarves home lay within the mountains that spanned across the lands, but their close alliance with the Human kingdoms allowed their people to spread far and wide, eventually becoming as common of a sight across the lands as and Human or Elf.
In the brief period of time between the ending of the Godswar and the Shattering, quietly and inconspicuously across the lands those Dwarves who lived outside their own people began to pack their things and simply leave, retreating back into the mountain halls that ancestors called home. As more and more Dwarves began to quietly disappear from the lands, concerned outsides would visit the gates of these mountain cities only to find them sealed and silent, with no entry or even sign of life to be found within. Then, mere days after the last Dwarf seemingly disappeared from the lands, The Shattering tore the lands asunder and in the aftermath, those Dwarven halls that hadn't simply vanished in the reformation of the lands remained silent and sealed against all attempts to enter.
