The true-born son of The Spring Queen, Derrek lived much of his life surrounded by love, comfort, and the affections of his people during his years growing up at the heart of The Court of First Spring. Though he is unquestionably the son of The Spring Queen, the rest of his origins have long be shrouded in mystery as The Queen has refused to elaborate on the circumstances of his birth, even to Derrek himself, who has never known of either his father or his life prior to The Spring Queen's ascent to the throne of Fey. Though it has long been one of many entertainments of the court to speculate on, Derrek himself has never seemed to be troubled by this, being perfectly content with the family that he had found in both his mother and adopted older brother Talon Coldwind, whom he always considered to simply be his brother, despite the differences in their birth.
Equal parts good-natured and mischievous, Derrek was a source of joy to many members of the Court during his younger years and was much beloved by both his family and his people because of it. Thus it was a particularly painful blow for Fey than it may have otherwise been when it came to light six years ago that the Prince had been selling secrets to The Court of Autumn, in an apparent bid to defect, though his true goals beyond that would never be discovered. Prince Derrek insisted upon his innocence, by the evidence against him was overwhelming and ultimately he chose to flee the capitol and, likely, the whole realm. An extensive manhunt across Fey was mounted, to ultimately no avail, allowing the former Prince to vanish with nearly no trace of him since. From time to time, alleged sighting have been reported in the Realms beyond Fey but the Spring Court's limited reach beyond their home Realm has made the search beyond largely impractical and the hunt has officially been abandoned for several years now.
