Personal Journal entry of Sauda written in Shadowtongue (Curses, Illusions and a Spring Ablaze)
My team (Kakkariel the Juggler, Murphy the Oracle, Felmire the Rapid and Archibald of Winter) took the request to find and end the last Sea Unknown who terrorized the The Unseen Village. None of us spoke the language, so we enlisted the translation help of a Dwarven woman, Talgra (she really needs to sleep more), from First Landing and began our journey. Our first stop was at a Temple, I can not remember the name at the moment, but it was our final respite for the journey ahead. We passed a massive Tower, and stumbled across a hole which had two shadow creatures who choked their victims before they feed. We killed one of them and the other ran away, thankfully. That should have been an indication of how... unforgiving... this quest of ours this would be. But we moved on, undeterred.
We eventually made contact with Fox people, Yuuko the Brave and two of his companions from the Unseen Village (I would like to visit it when the mission is over) and were informed that the Sea Hag had made her way to a Springs area. We eventually made it to the Aburayan Springs, and split up into groups to gather as much information as we could. Murphy, Felmire and I went to the Bathhouse, which was the seat of power for the protector of this grove area. We met some guests and mingled, I spoke with a Dryad (Tryad?) who was three-in-one, Lady Ryeind Midinve. She was, something else, melodious, prickly, and a whisper... I would very much like to meet her again. I will definitely find an excuse to visit her grove. Anyway... we met the Protector of the Springs, Lady Bernadette, in her chamber, and we should have picked up something was wrong, but we thought nothing of it. We... I should have been more discreet in my line of questioning. But I gave away our biggest advantage, the element of surprise. She knew we were after her and she set us on a path to ruin.
She directed us to the basement of the Bathhouse where an imprisoned Efreeti, Lord Azar Hacofyre, who was used to heat the waters of this place. He was enslaved for so long, I should have seen his hatred and desire to... I wanted to believe he could... We eventually left and met back up with the team. And we were directed to a cave which might be the Hag's hideaway. We fought charmed water Elementals, and I am ashamed to say, I fell in that fight. The Hag, she did something to my mind... I remember my time back home, in the Shadows. I remember the serpent tyrant. The people... I saw her mocking me. It was horrible. I was scared. I woke up the next morning and I feel as if I had not, it would have been a lot worse. We eventually returned to the cave and made our way in, until we found the Hags' lair with her Boggard champion, a creature with crab claws, and a mud construct. And Bernadette who was actually a 'Yuuko' the Sea Hag in illusionary disguise.
The battle for fierce and we took out her minions, but she was taking us out with her magics and in a moment of desperation she made her last wish. After that, I thought we could use a wish against her, and this is where I... I... I made my way to the Efreeti's chamber and I made my three wishes... To put the Hag to sleep until she died, to heal my comrades... and... and... Lord Tanagaar forgive me... I freed Azar... I thought by freeing him, he would want to return to his home Plane and move on... I thought he could be reasoned with when he began to rage... In my self-righteousness... I doomed everyone in that bathhouse... I got Talgra away, and when I knew they would be safe I made my way to the blazing building... The death, the destruction, just like home but a different kind of evil.... Lord Tanagaar forgive me what have I unleashed... The only way I saw fit to stop this was to offer myself up... But Kakkariel, the damn selfless Unknown... He did so before me... Now we are both 'property' of Azar. He has brought us to the Plane of Fire...
What horrors await us here in the place of burning cinder, brimstone and choking air of smoke? Will we ever get home to First Landing? For what I have freed, I must make amends. If anyone finds my journal, this is my recounting of the events and... I am sorry, for what I have done. I hope the others are safe. I hope I did what is right.
