Pacific Titanoboa

The Pacific Titanoboa is a colossal serpent species native to Oceanyka’s dense tropical jungles. Despite its name, it is not related to the South American Titanoboa cerrejonensis, but instead shares ancestry with the extinct Vasuki indicus of prehistoric India. Reaching lengths of up to 12 metres and weighing as much as 1,500 kilograms, the Pacific Titanoboa is a master of ambush predation. Its sheer bulk belies its agility: the creature is capable of short bursts of speed sufficient to outrun a man, weaving through undergrowth and broken terrain with ease. It is often described by survivors as "a landslide with teeth" for its speed and unstoppable force once it commits to a strike.

Adapted for the pursuit and capture of large prey such as the Western Giant Wombat, the Titanoboa possesses a dense layer of armoured scales that are highly resistant to injury. Small arms fire is typically ineffective unless delivered in large calibre or in the form of an Armour Piercing Bullet. As a result, local hunters and community patrols are advised to either avoid confrontation or bring heavy firepower to the field.

Cunning and territorial, Titanoboas are known to stalk intruders for hours or even days, selecting optimal ambush sites, predicting escape routes, and demonstrating chilling patience. If the odds appear unfavourable, a Titanoboa may disengage, only to return later once the target is vulnerable. Numerous disappearances in Oceanyka’s backcountry are attributed to "ghost snakes" by local communities, a folk term referring to Titanoboas that seem to vanish and reappear without warning.

In Dreamtime mythology, the Titanoboa is often portrayed as a forest spirit of retribution, punishing those who disrespect sacred groves or overhunt the land. Some tales describe them as ancient guardians, birthed by the Dreamspace itself, though scientific authorities dismiss this as superstition. Nonetheless, many frontier towns still hang amulets of crushed coral and copper wire at the jungle's edge, a traditional ward said to repel the serpent's "dream-sense."

In the modern day, the Titanoboa has been the object of targeted hunts and has lost much of its ancient homeland to the unrelenting advance of industry. Its population has been significantly reduced by habitat loss and extermination, but it remains a dreadsome foe for any lone wandered of the Oceanykan bush, and the possibility of encountering one is never zero.
