Description
By gods' design, it's not possible to have offspring of two different species of humanoids. There are two exceptions. One of them is the union between Elves and Humans. When the fragments saw the potential of the elven race and the vast difference in lifespan from humans, they knew that such disparity would cause problems. Humans themselves looked upon the elves as an upgraded version of themselves, blessed with gifts they did not have. Their strength was adaptation. With that situation at hand, the fragments modified the human genes to be compatible with those of the elven race, allowing offspring of the two species to be born. Thus, the Half Elves started to appear. Carrying some of the traits from both parents, Half Elves displayed longer lifespans and the versatility of humans. Since then, many humans have tried to court elves, to give their children and lineage longer time in life. Elves on the other hand saw this as punishment. Having children with a human meant that their kids might even grow old and die before them, and this was a tragic thing, no elven parent wanted to go through. Despite the reluctance, some elves chose to pursue relationships like that despite the disadvantages acting on emotion rather than logic. More often than not, elves who had already passed their 500 year would attempt such relationship, to avoid having their children die before them.
Half Elves were integrated in both communities but not in the same way. Amongst the elves they were seen as a problem, diluting their elven bloodlines and causing decline in Elven society. Amongst humans, they had special treatment and were often popular and held positions of power. In many cases, they were ambassadors between the two races, representing both sides.
Origins
Half Elves were allowed to exist, due to the modifications of the human race by Laia to fit the elven genes.
Genetics
Walking in two worlds but truly belonging to neither, half-elves combine what some say are the best qualities of their elf and human parents: human curiosity, inventiveness, and ambition tempered by the refined senses, love of nature, and artistic tastes of the elves. They have no predisposition towards any alignment, but they do feature resistance to some types of magic. One of the easiest way to recognize a half elf, is the combination of pointy ears and facial hair (on males).
Lifespan
Half Elves live up to 300 years.
Homeland
Also found in
Eratus, Unified Caldar, Aldion, Razorleaf
Reputation
Half elves have good reputation amongst humans, while the elves think lesser of them, because of the dilution on their bloodlines. The rest of the world treat Half Elves with neutrality. As they never had a nation of their own, there is no set reputation from their actions.
Alive/Extinct
Half Elves exist until the 4th era.
