Arkayne Tower

Necropolis Spire

The Arkayne Tower, a towering obsidian spire, was once a fearsome stronghold belonging to Shadowlord Mortis, located on a marshy peninsula beyond the Dread Marshes and south of the City of Evernight in The Shadowfell. This towering structure served not only as Mortis’ seat of power but also as his personal laboratory for dark and twisted experiments in necromancy.

Constructed through powerful necrotic summoning magic, the tower rose ominously from the mist-shrouded wetlands, its black walls reflecting the eternal gloom of the Shadowfell. Its presence loomed over the surrounding lands for miles, enabling Mortis to monitor those he scryed upon and manipulate events from the safety of his dark fortress.

Within its shadowy halls, Mortis conducted gruesome experiments, creating flesh golems and horrific undead constructs through necromantic rituals. He pushed the boundaries of death and life, binding souls to corpses, stitching together parts of the deceased, and raising them into loyal abominations to serve his will. His obsession with undeath and mastery of necromancy made him one of the most feared and reviled Shadowlords in the Shadowfell.

The laboratories deep within Arkayne Tower were filled with grotesque sights—tables covered in dark, blood-stained cloths, tools for dissection, and tanks filled with the remains of failed experiments. The stench of death and decay permeated every corner of the tower, and the groans of Mortis’ creations echoed through its twisted corridors.

Mortis, ever vigilant, used the tower's height and the power of the Scrying Chamber at the top to watch over the Shadowfell, keeping tabs on his enemies and potential threats. His magical gaze could peer through the mists of the Shadowfell, allowing him to monitor the comings and goings of his rivals, enemies, and even his fellow Shadowlords. His paranoia and hunger for control were boundless.

However, the fate of the Arkayne Tower was sealed when Archshadi Neverus possessed Mortis, seeking to claim the Shadowlord's power for his own. In the ensuing struggle for control, Mortis was killed, leaving the tower abandoned. Without its master, the once-great necropolis began to crumble, and now it slowly decays, its halls still echoing with the remnants of Mortis’ dark magic.

The Arkayne Tower stands as a haunting reminder of the malevolent power once wielded by Shadowlord Mortis and the dark arts he pursued. Its legacy of necromantic experimentation and horror lingers long after its master’s fall, attracting those foolish or brave enough to seek the secrets hidden within its obsidian walls.
