The Ruins of Voldren were once a small settlement of Solir, a people deeply connected to The Sun Realm, who began their tragic transformation into Shades after being corrupted by the overwhelming negative energy of The Shadowfell. The Solir of Voldren -- a settlement nearby the city of Itela -- were originally a proud and noble people, but their fate was sealed when they were banished to the Shadowfell after the death of Avatar Lumina, the Avatar of the Sun. Lumina was slain by Malekith during his catastrophic assault on the Sun Realm, in which he scorched the civilization of Itela, the heart of the Solir people. In the aftermath, the survivors of Itela were cast into the Shadowfell, where their light was slowly consumed by darkness.
Once in the Shadowfell, the Solir settlers of Voldren quickly found themselves at the mercy of the dark energies of their new home. Their physical forms began to change, as their once brilliant bodies were twisted by the bleak aura of the plane. Over time, many of the Solir succumbed to the corruption, becoming Shades—creatures more at home in shadow than in light.
The settlement was relentlessly targeted by all manner of ghouls, wraiths, and revenants, drawn to the suffering and despair that radiated from the cursed Solir. Despite their efforts to protect themselves, Voldren was ultimately destroyed by the Crimson Hand, a cruel band of demonic paladins who scoured the Shadowfell in search of fresh recruits to enslave and corrupt. The Crimson Hand showed no mercy, razing Voldren to the ground and leaving the survivors to either die or flee to the City of Evernight under the protection of the Shadowlords.
Now, the ruins of Voldren are a haunting place, shrouded in mist and filled with the restless wraiths of the fallen Solir. Their once-bright spirits now roam aimlessly, trapped in an eternal cycle of torment, their radiant essence consumed by the very shadows that took their lives. The burned remains of Voldren are a grim reminder of the price the Solir paid when they were banished to the Shadowfell, and a warning to any who dare venture too close. The mist-covered ruins echo with the cries of the fallen, as the wraiths search in vain for the light that was forever lost.
