Buried beneath the northeastern expanse of The Sands of Serrakhan, just beyond the scorched horizon of the Pilgrim’s Path between Dunehold Outpost and the Sun Shrine, lies the submerged sanctum once known as the Temple of Rozan—now remembered as Rozan’s Redoubt. Concealed beneath centuries of windblown sand and seared saltstone, this sunken edifice was not a place of public worship, but the secluded refuge of Avatar Rozan, first of the Sun Avatars and scion of the Solir civilization of Itela.
The Redoubt is a site of solemnity and isolation, its spired silhouette half-encased in dunes, only visible when the scorching winds pull back the veil of time. Though the desert has claimed much, the sanctum endures—its sandstone pillars and bronze solar runes catching the light of dawn when the sun pierces the horizon just so, and Rozan's Eye casts its sacred beam across the wasteland.
Origins & Purpose
Rozan’s Redoubt was constructed in the final centuries of Rozan’s life, after he withdrew from the world to ponder the balance of the elemental realms and the mysteries of the Continuum Crystal Cosmology. In solitude, he walked the borders between fire and stone, light and void—seeking unity where conflict reigned. This redoubt was said to be aligned to the Riftways flowing between the Prime Plane and Elemental Unknown, serving as both a spiritual sanctuary and an arcane observatory. Within its circular inner sanctum, Rozan inscribed solar glyphs depicting not only the solar cycle, but the cyclical convergence of elemental harmony across the planes.
It was here he composed his Sunward Codex, a lost text which detailed the necessity of convergence—not domination—between the elemental forces. Some believe it is within this redoubt that Rozan first foresaw the cataclysms that would one day befall the Avatars, and the rise of Malekith.
Recent Rediscovery
The ruins were first partially unearthed in the early Fifth Age by the adventurer Losk the Wanderer, who followed fractured Solir records from the city of Shariz to the arid northeast. Losk, was granted passage through the outer veil—a radiant ward of molten light that incinerated the unworthy.Within, he discovered residual traces of Rift Energy, elemental diagrams etched in obsidian, and fragments of celestial prophecy. His findings would later inform the Emris Adventuring Guild and The Sunsations under Avatar Talyen, who now walks the same path Rozan once trod.
Current Status
Following the Conjunction of the Realms, Rozan’s Redoubt was destabilized. Its foundations, once nestled beneath dunes, now sit askew in a newly ruptured terrain—partially collapsed, partially suspended above rift-split earth.
Though few venture to Rozan’s Redoubt today, those who do claim to hear a voice in the wind, one not cruel or commanding, but quiet—like sunlight through glass.
