The Wild Hunt

Archfey Ritual Hunt

The Wild Hunt is a terrifying and ancient ritual of carnage, orchestrated by the Court of Wither under the command of Morrígna, the Black Rose. It is an event steeped in bloodshed and chaos, unleashed every few millennia to disrupt the balance of the Faewyld and assert the dominance of the Court of Verdance.

Ritual and Purpose

The Wild Hunt is not merely an act of destruction but a ceremonial expression of the Court of Wither’s philosophy—embracing decay, chaos, and the inevitability of death. During the Hunt, malevolent spirits, corrupted beasts, and members of the Court of Wither descend upon the Faewyld, hunting its peaceful denizens with ruthless precision.

  • The Hunt spares no one, from the smallest sprites to the greatest Archfey, leaving behind a path of ruin and despair.
  • The ritual begins with Morrígna summoning the Sluagh, a spectral horde of malevolent spirits, and empowering her generals—Baba Yaga, Yokai the Blood King, and Borealis, the Warden of Winter—to lead the charge.
  • As the Hunt progresses, the very land seems to wither in its wake, with vibrant forests turning to ash and streams freezing or stagnating.

The Role of Morrígna

As the orchestrator of the Wild Hunt, Morrígna uses it as a tool to expand her influence and weaken the Court of Verdance. The Hunt embodies her philosophy of shadow triumphing over light and serves as a reminder of her relentless pursuit of chaos and decay.

The ritual also reflects her personal vendetta against her sister, Queen Visunna, and the harmony she represents. By ravaging the Faewyld, Morrígna aims to destabilize the balance maintained by the Court of Verdance and claim the Faewyld for herself.

Beasts and Spirits of the Hunt

The Wild Hunt is comprised of a terrifying array of corrupted creatures and malevolent spirits:

  • The Sluagh: Swarms of spectral wraiths and banshees that haunt the edges of the Hunt, striking fear into the hearts of all who see them.
  • General Yokai’s Vanguard: A battalion of savage Oni warriors and monstrous beasts led by the Blood King, sowing carnage wherever they tread.
  • Frostwraiths of Borealis: Frozen spirits that chill the air and spread deadly winter storms, immobilizing prey for the Hunt.
  • Corrupted Beasts: Twisted versions of Faewyld creatures, including Nightfang Stalkers, Blackthorn Manticores, and other nightmarish predators.

The Vows of Verdance

The Court of Verdance is the only force capable of halting the Wild Hunt. Led by King Cernunnos and Queen Visunna, the court and their allies rally the Faewyld’s peaceful denizens to defend their home.

  • The Court of Verdance does not seek to destroy the Hunt entirely, as its existence reflects the duality of the Faewyld. Instead, they aim to contain it and prevent it from spiraling beyond control.
  • The Archfey of the Court of Verdance, including Pyram and Philemon, use their unique abilities to restore the land and heal its inhabitants in the aftermath.

Howls of the Wild Hunt

The Wild Hunt is both a destructive event and a grim reminder of the Faewyld’s precarious balance. It exemplifies the eternal struggle between light and shadow, life and decay, embodied by the conflict between the Court of Verdance and the Court of Wither.

To the peaceful denizens of the Faewyld, the Hunt is a cataclysmic nightmare, a storm of chaos and death that scars the land and their spirits. Yet, to Morrígna and her followers, it is a triumphant display of the inevitability of decay and the fleeting nature of harmony.

The scars left by the Wild Hunt linger long after the event ends, with corrupted regions of the Faewyld remaining as grim reminders of the Court of Wither’s wrath. Though balance is eventually restored, the echoes of the Hunt remind all of the delicate and eternal dance between light and shadow.
