Marcen, the younger half-brother of Pali, was a warrior forged in wrath and raised in blood, a hunter who sought to serve the insatiable hunger of Skoll, the Khaos god of Savagery. Unlike his uncle Tarlo, who believed in restraint, Marcen fully embraced the cruelty and primal instincts of his father, Orsin, and the ruthless traditions of the Tribe of Ulfbjorn.
From a young age, Marcen yearned to prove his worth, not only to his father but also to Skoll himself. He believed that by hunting the Wendigo of Fralskar Forest, the most feared creatures of the wilds, he would ascend as the champion of the rabid demon prince. Yet, his arrogance proved his undoing.
The Hunt and the Fall
Venturing alone into the Fralskar Forest, Marcen tracked his prey through the snow-choked ruins of old villages, the distant howls of unseen horrors echoing through the trees. But he underestimated the ancient Wendigo, their hunger far greater than his own.
Beset upon by a pack of monstrous, skeletal wraiths, he fought valiantly, but their strength and unnatural resilience were beyond him. They tore into him, rending his flesh, ripping out his tongue, and leaving him on the brink of death.
Marcen barely escaped with his life, stumbling through the forest, his body broken, his voice stolen. When he crawled back to Ulfbjorn Village, seeking solace, his father, Orsin, did not welcome him.
Orsin viewed his son’s failure as disgrace, shunning Marcen for his weakness, refusing him the honor of the hunt. This rejection festered in Marcen’s heart, breeding resentment toward his father, toward Skoll, toward everything he once worshipped.
The Debt of Blood
Marcen’s fate was sealed when the Chosen of Chaos arrived—the ruinous paladins who carried the will of Varaghast Ghuul. These warriors, driven by the whispers of Khaos, descended upon the Ulfbjorn lands and slaughtered the Wendigo that had once bested him.
But their aid was not given freely. In repayment of debt, Orsin offered his own son to the Chosen, a tribute of blood for their service. With no place left among the Ulfbjorn, Marcen left his homeland behind, swearing fealty to Khaos and his new masters (alongside Pali, a chosen of chaos).
Battle Against Atropos
Marcen’s journey with the Chosen of Chaos led him through the Veil of Valkur, where they waged war against the Fyrashan Spirit Seers, the last Oracles of Oblivion who could see into the aspects of fate and death.
In the brutal onslaught against Atropos, Marcen fought without fear, tearing through the enemy with savage ferocity. He had no illusions of mercy—he sought only to prove himself worthy of the Khaos Gods.
Yet, against the ethereal magic of Atropos, he was nothing. The Unknown seer, a master of the veil between life and death, cast forth a withering incantation, unraveling Marcen’s very essence. His screams were silent, his body reduced to ash, his soul consumed by the void.
Legacy
Marcen’s name faded from the lips of his people, remembered only as a cautionary tale of failure and misplaced ambition. He sought to be the champion of Skoll, but in the end, he was nothing more than prey.
His father never mourned him. His brother never spoke of him.
Only the wind, whispering through the snow-laden ruins of Fralskar, remembers the forgotten son of Ulfbjorn.
