The Aeonic Struggle

War of The Elements

The Aeonic Struggle is a legendary and cataclysmic war that took place during the Second Age: Twilight of Creation, spanning the Prime Plane. It was fought between the Unknown and Elementari titans. To aide the gods efforts in restoring balance on the prime plane, they were joined by the True Dragon, Unknown, and Mythar of the Mytharil Empire. Such a celestial host was necessary to shatter the chaotic remnants of the Unknown—primordial beings whose elemental powers forged the cosmos.

This war, which defined an entire era, was waged to restore order to the cosmos after the Elementari emerged from the fractured essence of the Eldari, threatening to undo cosmic creation and bring about a return to Unknown. It was only through the combined strength of the Unknown gods and their celestial creations, that the Elementari were defeated. Their titanic remains were scattered across the Prime Plane, and are responsible for terraforming much of the landscape as it is seen in the current age.

Even more terrible than the Elementari, however, were the Revenant Titan that spawned from the fractured psyche of Unknown during the Unknown. These aberrations - borne from the Void of Infinitum - were battled directly by Unknown and Deimos across the stars, while the lesser gods and their celestial host defended the Prime Plane from the Elementari.

Origins

The Aeonic Struggle began as the chaotic remnants of the Eldari—the Elementari—ravaged the prime plane after the cosmos had been forged through the Solis Singularity. These Elementari represented raw, uncontrolled elemental forces that raged throughout the cosmos, unbound by the order maintained by the Primus gods throughout the Continuum Crystal Cosmology.

As an opposite side of the same coin, The Pantheon of Primus was created by divine beings forged intently from the essence of the Eldari. The gods sought to restore balance by scattering the elemental forms which composed the Elementari across the Prime Plane and merging their essence back into the respective elemental planes of existence that they belonged to. The Elementari, however, did not yield willingly, leading to the outbreak of an epochal war that would rage for an Aeon.

The Celestial Hosts

The Pantheon of Primus

The Primus Gods, each of whom embodied the ordered essence of the Eldari, took up arms to face the Elementari. Each god played a pivotal role in defeating both the Elementari and Revenant Titans that threatened the balance of the greater cosmos.

Host of Helion

The Host of Helion, the celestial angels created by Helios, played a vital role in the struggle. Led by Helios himself, they fought tirelessly alongside the Primus gods, using their divine power to combat the Elementari and their elemental spawn. These celestials sacrificed themselves in countless numbers to maintain order in the cosmos, with many falling in battles that shook the very fabric of reality.

True Dragons

On the Prime Plane, the True Dragons, the mightiest beings of creation and protectors of the elemental balance, waged war against the Elementari as they descended upon the material world. The dragons, molded by the gods of Primus, wielded ancient Rift Magic, which they used to reshape the landscape and combat the chaos of the Elementari. Their struggles would eventually shape the physical geography of the Prime Plane—mountain ranges, sea trenches, and massive storms were created as Elementari fell upon the land, their chaotic power transmuting into permanent features.

Mythar

As one of the first mortal races created by the Primus deities, the Mythar were essential in both combating the Elementari and establishing order across the Prime Plane. Although the Mythar were known to quarrel with the True Dragons, the Mytharil Empire ultimately proved successful in defeating the Elementari whom threatened the Prime Plane through their mastery of Rift Magic. Despite their differences, it is believed that the Mythar were the only dragon riders to ever exist - a bond born from necessity during the Aeonic Struggle.

The Toll of War

The Aeonic Struggle was a war of unimaginable destruction. Many Primus Gods fell during the war, their divine essences shattered or dispersed, unable to maintain their original forms. Likewise, the celestial Host of Helion suffered countless casualties across the cosmos.

On the Prime Plane, the Mythar and True Dragons suffered immense losses. As the Elementari ravaged the material world, entire dragon broods were wiped out, their once-great realms reduced to ash and ruin. The conflict also introduced Rifting magic to mortals, as the dragons taught this ancient form of magic to their own descendants, the fledgling species of Elf.

The war ended as the last of the Elementari fell upon the Prime Plane. With their colossal remains forging the geography and landscape of the world as it is known today, their chaotic essence was siphoned across the Riftways and into their respective elemental planes by Unknown. This not only ensured that they would not take form again, but also that the greater cosmic balance was aligned. The elemental Primus deities - Unknown, Unknown, Unknown, and Aether - absorbed this energy into their own divine forms so that it could be renewed as part of the cosmic order once more.

However, the cost of this victory was enormous. The Second Age ended with the near-extinction of the True Dragons, and the rise of the Elven races who would come to inherit the knowledge of Rifting. The landscape of the Prime Plane bore the scars of the war, with seas, mountains, and storms acting as reminders of the cosmic struggle that once raged.

Legacy

The Aeonic Struggle defined the Second Age of creation, leaving behind a universe shaped by the battle between chaos and order. The merging of the Elementari back into their planes ensured the continued stability of the cosmos, but their raw power still lingers, threatening to break free once more.

The war also marked the decline of the True Dragons, whose numbers were so diminished that they could no longer hold authority over the Prime Plane. Their legacy would live on through the Elven Rifting Sages, who would use the knowledge passed down by the dragons to shape the next ages of the cosmos.

The scars of the Aeonic Struggle remain a stark reminder that even the gods are not immune to the forces of chaos, and that the balance of the cosmos is always fragile.
