Origin

The Khaos Gods represent the purest form of disorder and chaos in the cosmos, existing as the direct antithesis to the Unknown, who were formed from the Unknown to maintain order and balance. While the Primus gods serve as guardians of creation, harmony, and the cycle of life and death, the Unknown embody destruction, madness, and the forces that unravel the fabric of the universe.

The Khaos gods were not crafted with purpose or order. Instead, they were born from the eternal, twisted dreams of Unknown, the Watcher in the Abyss, whose maddened consciousness spirals endlessly within the Void of Infinitum. As Azhorra'tha dreams, the chaotic energy of its subconscious leaks into the cosmos, birthing gods whose very essence defies the laws of nature, time, and space. Some Khaos gods also emerged from the collective emotions, actions, and darkest desires of sentient beings, gaining strength and sentience from the negativity and chaos sown by mortals.

The Khaos gods dwell primarily in the Plane of Khaos, a realm of pure disorder and elemental chaos. Here, time does not exist as it does elsewhere, and the natural laws of the universe are distorted beyond comprehension. These deities rarely leave their chaotic domain, but their influence can be felt throughout the cosmos, seeping into other realms via rift tears, causing untold destruction, madness, and chaos wherever they touch.

Existence and Powers

Each Khaos god embodies a fundamental aspect of chaos and disorder. Their powers are unpredictable, often unstable, and capable of unleashing unimaginable destruction upon the cosmos. While the Unknown gods represent balance and creation, the Khaos gods revel in entropy, decay, and the undoing of all things. They can manipulate the fundamental forces of reality, turning order into chaos and corrupting matter itself.

Unlike the structured hierarchy of the Pantheon of Primus, the Khaos gods do not adhere to any order, nor do they cooperate or function as a collective. Each Khaos god seeks to unravel reality in their own way, driven by their respective chaotic natures. They are chaotic by definition, with no fixed purpose beyond the propagation of madness and disorder. However, their combined efforts can still cause rifts in the fabric of the cosmos, threatening to tear apart the delicate balance of creation established by the Primus gods.

Some of the most notorious Khaos gods include:

  • Skorn, the God of Wrath and Bloodshed, born from the rage and violence of sentient beings. Skorn thrives on the chaos of war, feeding on the anger and destruction wrought by conflict. His very presence incites bloodlust and carnage, turning peaceful beings into mindless berserkers.
  • Skoll, the God of Savagery and Beasts, a primal force born from the wild and untamed ferocity of the animal kingdom. Skoll represents the savage instincts of all living creatures, existing as the manifestation of nature at its most brutal and unforgiving.
  • Valkur, the God of War and Ruin, an embodiment of the endless cycle of conquest and destruction. Valkur thrives on the collapse of civilizations and the endless rise and fall of empires.
  • Night Mother Nyx, the Night Mother and Goddess of Curses and Change, who manipulates the shadows and darkness to warp reality itself. She resides in the Shadowfell, twisting life into dark reflections of what it once was.

Connections

  • Azhorra'tha: The dreaming consciousness of Azhorra'tha is the source of many Khaos gods. Their very existence is a manifestation of the chaos that swirls within the endless abyss of Azhorra'tha's mind.
  • Pantheon of Primus: The Khaos gods are the natural enemies of the Primus gods, representing everything the Pantheon of Primus strives to contain. They actively seek to undo the order and balance established by the Primus gods, corrupting creation and introducing madness, destruction, and disorder.
  • Riftways and the Prime Plane: Though the Khaos gods dwell primarily in the Plane of Khaos, their influence can spill into the Prime Plane and other realms through rift tears. These rifts allow chaotic entities and abominations to cross into stable realities, often leading to catastrophic events that can tear apart the fabric of space and time.

Legacy and Influence

Though the Khaos gods are bound to their realm of chaos, their influence is ever-present across the cosmos. Their essence seeps into the hearts and minds of mortals, driving them toward madness, destruction, and corruption. Entire civilizations have been brought to ruin by the subtle influence of Khaos gods, whose whispers of power and freedom from order lead to catastrophic consequences.

In times of great turmoil, when wars rage, empires collapse, or natural disasters strike, it is often believed that the Khaos gods have found a way to manipulate the flow of events, using the chaos and destruction to further their influence. Worshippers of these gods often gather in secret cults, seeking to unleash their chaotic masters into the realms of order and tear down the foundations of the universe.

Continuum of Chaos

Unlike the Primus gods, the Khaos gods do not fear death or destruction. In fact, they revel in it. They are forces of pure entropy, and their existence is not tied to a single form or domain. Even if a Khaos god is destroyed, their chaotic essence can manifest elsewhere, reborn through the madness and disorder they leave in their wake. The Khaos gods are eternal, as long as chaos itself exists within the universe.

While the Pantheon of Primus fights to maintain the delicate balance of creation, the Khaos gods constantly seek to tip that balance toward destruction. They are the shadows lurking at the edge of existence, waiting for their opportunity to strike and plunge the cosmos back into the primordial chaos from which it was born.
