Fortified Ithosian Talons Camp Overview
Location:
This fortified camp is located 16 days upriver from Seregon and 5 days beyond Camp Refuge, along the Lula River, near the treacherous Moog Basin, where the Lula River meets the Locantis River. The camp is a vital military outpost for the Ithosian Talons, strategically positioned to control the river routes and fend off dangers from the jungle and the surrounding swamp.
Camp Description:
Through the thick jungle foliage, the camp emerges—a crude, functional military fortification made from timber and surrounded by a deep ditch lined with sharpened stakes. The camp walls are tall and reinforced, built to withstand raids from beastmen, jungle creatures, or hostile tribes. The fort is guarded by watchtowers manned around the clock, giving a clear view of both the river and the dense jungle.
Inside the Camp:
- The camp’s layout consists of tents arranged in military order around a central command tent. Supply stores, barracks for the troops, and a medical tent for the injured are located within the walls.
- A large gatehouse faces the river, where four rowboats are tied, ready to be used for scouting or supply runs.
- The air is heavy with the stench of death, as piles of charred corpses—both human and animal—lie scattered near the perimeter, victims of jungle raids and disease. Flies buzz around the remains, adding to the oppressive atmosphere.
Leadership:
Centurion Commander:
Centurion Cassian Varro
Cassian Varro is a hardened Roman-style military leader, his face lined with years of experience and the weight of command. He stands tall and stern, his eyes sharp as flint. His dark hair, now streaked with gray, is cropped short, and his weathered skin shows scars from countless battles. Varro is known for his strict discipline and unyielding nature, always expecting the best from his troops. Despite the dwindling numbers and the constant threat of danger, Varro maintains an aura of control, leading his soldiers with ruthless efficiency. He has a reputation for making tough decisions and isn’t one to let emotion cloud his judgment.
Optio (Captain) #1 (Female):
Optio Valeria Sabina
Valeria Sabina is as fierce as she is capable. Standing as the first Optio, she serves as Centurion Varro’s second-in-command. Her long black hair is tied back in a tight braid, and her sharp green eyes miss nothing. Sabina is a tactical genius, known for her quick thinking and sharp tongue. She’s earned the respect of the men by proving herself repeatedly in battle, often leading the more dangerous scouting missions. Unlike Varro’s stoic demeanor, Sabina brings a fiery intensity to her command style, and her soldiers would follow her to the gates of the underworld if she ordered it. Sabina is not just a soldier but also a survivalist, fully adapted to the challenges of the jungle.
Optio (Captain) #2: (Male)
Optio Decimus Faustus
Decimus Faustus is the third in command, a grizzled and experienced soldier whose devotion to the Ithosian Talons is unquestionable. Faustus is calm, methodical, and deeply loyal to Varro, often handling the camp’s internal affairs while the Centurion and Sabina lead external operations. Faustus is more approachable than Varro, offering guidance and mentorship to the younger soldiers. His face is heavily scarred, the result of a brutal encounter with beastmen near the Moog Basin. Though quieter than Sabina, Faustus is deeply respected for his steadfastness and unwavering resolve.
Clerical Support:
The camp is supposed to have 60 people, but they are currently down one cleric, leaving 59 soldiers in total. Despite their numbers being reduced, the remaining six clerics continue their sacred duties to heal and protect their comrades.
- Acolytes (Junior-Level Clerics):
There are six acolytes in the camp, newly trained clerics still honing their divine abilities. They tend to the wounded, conduct rituals to ward off evil spirits, and maintain the camp's morale by offering spiritual guidance. The loss of their senior cleric has weighed heavily on the group, but they push forward, knowing that their divine connection is a lifeline for the soldiers fighting in this harsh environment.
Nosgar Tribe Scouts:
The camp also benefits from the skills of 15 Nosgar Tribe scouts from the Ghoststride Leopards clan. These scouts are natives of the jungle, adept at moving through the dense foliage and navigating the treacherous terrain. They act as the eyes and ears of the Ithosian Talons, ensuring that the camp is never caught off guard by ambushes or lurking predators.
- Scout Leader:
Algoria the Silent
Algoria is a legendary scout among her people, known for her ability to move through the jungle like a ghost. Tall and slender, Algoria's silent footfalls and unparalleled knowledge of the jungle make her invaluable to the Ithosian Talons. Her skin is painted in natural dyes that allow her to blend into the jungle, and her sharp, yellow eyes seem to see in the dark. Though she speaks rarely, when she does, her words carry great weight. Algoria commands the respect of both her Nosgar scouts and the Ithosian Talons, having saved the camp from ambushes on more than one occasion.
Challenges Facing the Camp:
Jungle and Beastmen Raids:
Located near the dangerous Moog Basin, the camp is under constant threat from the hostile environment. The basin itself is a swampy, treacherous area where the Lula River and Locantis River meet. It’s infested with dangerous wildlife, and the nearby territories are claimed by beastmen tribes, who frequently attack the camp’s patrols. The constant fighting has taken its toll on the soldiers, contributing to the grim atmosphere.Disease and Attrition:
The jungle around the Moog Basin is not only home to beasts and enemies but also to disease. The humid, festering air of the swamp breeds sickness, and the loss of their senior cleric has made it harder for the camp to stave off illness. The clerics and acolytes are doing their best, but their resources are stretched thin.Supply Shortages:
With only four rowboats for supply runs, and constant raids threatening their resources, the camp is running low on food, medical supplies, and equipment. Reinforcements and supplies from Seregon or Camp Refuge are slow to arrive, and there is a growing sense of desperation as the soldiers and scouts push on.
