Temple of Pteor

The Temple of Pteor (Pa-tee-or), a very minor yet intriguing deity who was once a mortal hero. The temple is an enigmatic place of worship, surrounded by both reverence and controversy. Pteor, the bull-headed god of fertility, the night sky, and male sexual power, is considered monstrous and obscene by many, but his followers celebrate him for a singular, vital act: he defanged the ancient god Krang, an Old One of death. Krang now slumbers, recovering from this epic battle, and his awakening depends on reclaiming his lost power.

The temple itself is a low, squat structure, almost overshadowed by the more imposing temples nearby. Built from dark stone, the temple's architecture is simple yet functional, with a circular design that represents the cyclical nature of life and death, night and day. At the entrance, a large, imposing statue of Pteor stands with the exaggerated male characteristics he is known for, his bull head turned upward as if challenging the heavens.

Within the temple, the most sacred relics are housed: The Teeth of Krang a collection of precious gems believed to have come from the dead god himself. These teeth are kept in a heavily guarded chamber, deep within the temple, protected by Pteor's priests, who see it as their divine duty to ensure Krang never reclaims them. The chamber is dark, lit only by the faint glow of the gems, which seem to pulse with an eerie, otherworldly light.

Pteor's worshippers are a peculiar group, often considered outcasts by the more mainstream religious communities. They are drawn to Pteor's raw, primal power and his connection to the night sky and fertility. The worship of Pteor is secretive and often misunderstood, involving rites that celebrate male virility and the mysterious forces of the night. These rituals are conducted under the cover of darkness, in the temple’s inner sanctum, and are often accompanied by chants and offerings meant to honor Pteor's victory over Krang.

The priests of Pteor, The Fangguard, are a devoted and secretive order, known for their fierce loyalty to their god and their role as guardians of the Teeth of Krang. They wear simple robes adorned with the symbol of the Ram, representing Pteor's connection to strength, fertility, and wisdom. Despite their seemingly humble appearance, these priests are wise and cunning, steeped in the lore of both Pteor and Krang. They are respected, if not entirely trusted, by the other religious orders, who view the temple as a necessary evil—a place where the ancient balance between life and death, fertility and decay, is maintained.

Pteor's followers believe that their god's wisdom is unparalleled, and his victory over Krang is seen as proof of his divine cunning. They hold fast to the belief that as long as the Teeth of Krang remain in Pteor's temple, the world is safe from the return of the Dead One. The temple stands as a reminder of Pteor's vital, if controversial, role in the cosmic order—a minor god who accomplished a feat of great importance, ensuring that the balance of life and death remains undisturbed.
