Annelies Zandstra

Regent / Harbourmaster

Harbourmaster Annelies Zandstra is a figure steeped in both tragedy and complexity. Once a vibrant druid connected deeply to the natural world, her transformation into a Darakhul severed that bond, leaving her adrift and alienated from the life she once knew. Now, she navigates the shadows of Seregon's bustling Harbour District, her senses dulled and her heart heavy with loneliness. She spends much of her time secluded in Harbourmaster's Tower.

Annelies' life is a constant battle against her undead nature. The bright light of day stings her eyes, reducing the vibrant world she once cherished to shades of gray. The sweet scent of flowers, once a source of joy, is lost to her. Instead, she is plagued by a relentless hunger for flesh, a craving that both disgusts and tortures her. Her longing for a return to her former self drives her to save every coin she earns, hoping to one day afford a True Resurrection spell that could restore her humanity.

Her isolation has led her to seek solace in the temples of Seregon, but the teachings of the gods of light no longer resonate with her. Instead, she feels a dark pull toward Set, the god of chaos and destruction. The Temple of Set offers her a twisted form of hope—an opportunity to reclaim her senses, even at the cost of her soul. The thought of smelling flowers again, of feeling the warmth of the sun on her skin, and perhaps finding love, tempts her to consider Yonkers' offer to meet a priest who can perform the spell for a fraction of the cost.

Despite her inner turmoil, Annelies remains fiercely competent in her role as Harbourmaster. She oversees the operations of the harbor with an iron fist, ensuring that ships and cargo move smoothly through the docks. Yet, the ever-present smuggling and illicit slave trade weigh heavily on her conscience. She allows The Telum druids to operate on the docks, feeling a distant connection to them, though it is a reminder of the life she has lost.

Annelies' existence is one of contradictions—a yearning for the past, a flirtation with darkness, and an unwavering commitment to her duties. The future remains uncertain for her, as the choices she faces grow ever more perilous.
