Story: Battle for Torbek the Boson
The Yard Rats, under Captain Narouc Goldengut's discreet request, found themselves in a dimly lit inn where Torbek, the captain’s nephew and loyal boson of Crom's Riddle had last been seen. The dwarf’s disappearance, along with ten kegs of precious gunpowder, cast a shadow over Narouc’s reputation and his contract with the city-state of Seregon.
*Jorin Longbow (Dave), the ranger, crouched near the wall in the nephew’s quarters, tracing his fingers along a rat hole. He glanced back at the party. “There’s something off here. Tailyn, could you lend me a hand?”
With a nod, *Tailyn Blithe (Jay) sent his familiar, a sleek ferret named Flick, into the hole. They all watched as Flick’s tiny form disappeared into the wall, reemerging minutes later with a faint streak of blood on his fur.
“Blood,” *Balik Walraven (Jonathan) muttered grimly, his face tightening. “Not a good sign.”
The innkeeper, when questioned, seemed baffled, claiming he hadn’t seen a thing but mentioned that another tenant had vanished around the same time. * utkacha (Chad) sharp gaze pinned the innkeeper, but he genuinely appeared ignorant of Torbek’s fate.
They made their way to the missing tenant’s room and found it in disarray. *Ubel Ironclaw (Charlotte) gripped her sword tightly, her eyes sweeping the area. “This place feels...wrong,” she said, her voice barely a whisper. Mariska’s hand went to her lute, ready to unleash a protective melody.
A dark chill filled the room. As Utkacha peered under the bed, a figure lunged—a spectral dwarf, his once-loyal eyes now hollow and tormented. It was Torbek, transformed into a wraith. With a ghastly wail, he attacked, fueled by vengeance.
Balik stepped forward, raising his shield, calling on divine light to protect his friends. Jorin’s arrows zipped through the air, while Ubel’s sword cleaved against the shadowy form of the wraith. Mariska strummed her lute, infusing the party with resilience as Tailyn sent bolts of magical energy surging toward their foe.
The battle was relentless, the room filling with unnatural cold. At last, with a final strike from Balik’s warhammer, the wraith dissipated, leaving only a whisper of sorrow. Torbek’s spirit was finally at rest.
In the aftermath, they pieced together the clues: The Red Flux had orchestrated this horrific transformation, her influence stretching deeper than they’d realized. With heavy hearts, the Yard Rats swore to hunt down the vampire, bringing justice not only for Torbek but also to thwart her dark ambitions.
