The Dotted Plains, also known as the Pockmarks, were a sparsely-inhabited region across southeastern Commona. Stretching from the more-populated Central Commona all the way to the Neck of the Greatwyrm, the Dotted Plains were characterized by craterous indentations, jagged rock formations, and ruined structures. Few inhabited the plains permanently, but raiders from the Pikes and nomadic rangers sent by the Common League occasionally patrolled this vast badland.
Prior to the Common Unification, these lands were a semi-fertile prairie. While much of the region was stark, some areas boasted pastoral hills and bucolic flatlands, and communities rose up in these areas. Loose confederacies of shepherds, traders, farmers, and raiders were resistant to the proposals of Iodun Myrdinn, refusing to cede territory to the then-unestablished Common League.
Unleashing the full might of Cometfall in a scorched-earth campaign that spanned several weeks, Iodun utterly changed the landscape. Over a 44-day campaign, he reduceded it to a desolate landscape of hills, craters, and ruins, in an event became known as the Eastern Sundering. Their lands destroyed, many of the farmers and shepherds headed west or north, while the raiding bands fled back into the hinterlands.
