Cometfall, also called the Tome of Skyfire, was the most famous of the Epochal Artifacts among Mortalkind; many scholars believed it to be the single item responsible for shaping Somnum's political landscape. Possessing the ability to rain meteors from the skies and sunder the earth below, this magic tome was locked below the earth for centuries.
However, it was found by Iodun Myrdinn after the sage had a vision to him granted by the goddess Umera, supposedly following the flow of a planar Leyline heavily connected to the Realm of Fire. Once unearthed from the Grove of the Burnwillows, he used the tome to overtake many Mortalkind nations and establish the Common League, which became known as the "Land of Tome and Scepter", half in reference to Cometfall itself.
Evidence of the artifact's terrifying power remained visible on the scarred lands stretching across Eastern Commona, known as the Dotted Plains after the Eastern Sundering. After Iodun's passing, Cometfall was housed in the Court of the Torch, resting in a hand of a statue of Iodun. Watched by arcane wards, alarms, and a twenty-four hour permanent Torchwarden guard, it was possibly the most highly-protected item in the known world.
