Leyline

Leylines were a Magical concept that described how magic flowed through the planes, as invisble rivers of raw magical energy. They formed vast networks, running beneath mountains, across oceans, and through the heart of cities, shaping the natural and supernatural landscape alike. At their intersections, known as nodes, magic surged with unusual strength, creating places of great power where rituals, spells, or planar breaches became easier to enact. Scholars debated whether leylines were a natural feature of the world or a relic of ancient creation, but all agreed they were integral to the flow of magic.

For most Smallfolk, leylines were an invisible phenomenon, but some magical creatures were able to sense their pull. Wizards studied their effects to strengthen their craft, while Sorcerers sometimes felt their presence instinctively, as if they were veins of power resonating with their own. Where ley lines crossed or shifted, strange effects could ripple outward: sudden storms, heightened magical potency, or tears between planes. Settlements built near ley nodes risked being caught in magical disasters, but could also take advantage of their surging energy.

Leylines could be tapped by those with the right training, granting them access to stronger Spells, additional abilities, or unpredictable surges of magic. They were both boon and hazard, their raw energy offering great power but also carrying the risk of backlash or instability. Control of leyline nexuses often became the heart of conflicts between nations, cults, or arcane orders, each seeking to bind or protect these wells of energy.
