Verdane was a historically small town resting on the northeast edge of the Farmouth Bight. With close proximity to precious minerals mined in the Jawstones as well as sea access to the Sawteeth, Verdane thrived under the stewardship of its noble house Myrdinn. It was sulf-sustaining, with access to arable land on the Flat of Elaedh and protected from much of the Sea of Trees by the Howling Hollowland.

Verdane became a strategically important chokepoint in the events leading to the Unholy Siege Of Fort Verdane, as a host of wizards and artificers from Emblem were drafted to hurriedly expand the fort. At the command of Iodun Myrdinn, the town was completely rebuilt with defenses both physical and magical, and was extended to become a wall of incredible size.

Now named "Fort Verdane", it became the single most important fort in the Common League. Over a dozen miles long, the fort extended from the mountains to the sea, and though assembled in a hurry, it was a truly sturdy defense. After the South Common regiment was beaten back by a tide of undead forces summoned from the City of Merellien, they retreated to the Fort. The march of these horrors was only halted when the fort's walls were raised; the creatures that attempted to navigate around the Sea of Trees via the Howling Hollowland and were never seen again.

Though Commona surrendered both the Flat of Eleadh and access to the Bight after the siege, Fort Verdane remained a bastion of the republic. The fort became the most well-guarded city in the nation, and statues of Iodun could be found throughout its walls.
