Windborn, also called air genasi, were a type of Genieborn Mortalkind whose bodies bore the mark of elemental air. Though some appeared very physically similar to other smallfolk, others looked more magical, with skin in pale blues, grays, or alabaster white, sometimes swirling with faint patterns like drifting clouds or windblown sand. A windborn’s hair often moved as though stirred by a constant breeze, even in still air, and might range in color from silver-white, sky blue, to shimmering gold. Their eyes could gleam like clear skies, flash with lightning, or reflect like polished glass. Some windborn were surrounded by a faint rustling of air, their presence carrying a sense of weightlessness.
The abilities of the windborn reflected the elemental power within their bloodline, possessing a darkvision that let them see without light. Resistance to lightning damage came naturally to them, along with an instinctive talent for air-based Spellcraft. Many could call upon a rush of wind to push or pull objects, move with sudden bursts of speed, or even ride the currents of the air to cross obstacles. Their ancestry often traced back to the Djinn, the mighty air Genies of the Elemental Realm of Air; some lines drew from lesser air Elementals or other planar beings steeped in wind and sky. This connection gave them an affinity not only for the open air, but for the swift and unpredictable nature of the wind itself.
The temperament of windborn was often shaped by their elemental heritage, as they innately understood and spoke Auran. Many shared the quick, curious, and ever-changing nature of moving air; eager to explore, restless in spirit, and difficult to tie down. Some embodied the fierce, chaotic strength of the storm, prone to sudden shifts in mood or bursts of energy, while others reflected the calm and refreshing breeze, bringing ease, clarity, and lightness to those around them. Whether tempestuous or gentle, most windborn carried a sense of freedom in their demeanor; an ever-present reminder of the elemental power that flowed through their veins.
