Giants were a type of creatures closely related to the Smallfolk, but possessed immense size and long life. Their forms were broadly Human but built on a heavier frame, with dense bones that granted great toughness at the cost of speed and agility. Most giants possessed sharper senses than humans, with keen sight and hearing and, in some kinds, an unusually strong sense of smell. Some could see well in low light or darkness. They were largely resistant to disease and showed a natural tolerance for poisons.
Giant reproduction was slow, as pregnancies lasted close to a year or more, and their children required decades to reach adulthood. Though legends stated that giant ancestors lived forever, modern giants aged and died, most living several centuries, with the eldest reaching far beyond that span. Their long lives made them deliberate and patient, and they rarely allowed themselves to be hurried.
Giants formed distinct cultures and customs, often living in small tribes or extended families limited by the demands of their size and appetite. Most were intelligent and capable of complex thought, though some groups were more crude than others. Giants generally viewed themselves as superior to smaller peoples, speaking down to them and treating them as lesser or insignificant.
Lineage mattered greatly, and family history was often recited, as past alliances and feuds were believed to pass down through generations. Giants judged actions by their own values rather than those of smaller folk. Deeds that showed bravery, loyalty to family, or respect for tradition were held as worthy, while cowardice, betrayal, and dishonor were condemned, regardless of the harm or benefit such acts might bring to others.
