Human

Humans were by far the most populous type of Mortalborn in Somnum, the "Head of the Greatwyrm", and were correspondingly the most likely to be Crossborn or Otherborn. They were widespread and could be found in nearly every region of the world, from salt-cracked coastal cities to high, thin-aired mountain holds. In general they were fierce and disagreeable, quick to argue and slow to forgive, which led many other mortalborn to regard them with a mix of admiration and weary contempt.

What humans lacked in specialization, they made up for in sheer range. No other mortalborn produced such wildly different lives within a single generation. A human might be a farmer's child, a war hero, a merchant prince, and a hermit philosopher all before their hair turned grey. This diversity was often mistaken for shallowness by races who prized singular mastery, but it was better understood as ambition without an anchor. Humans were rarely content to be only one thing, and the world was shaped, disproportionately, by their restlessness.
