Thousands of years before Common Unification, the great city of Brazenthrone was built into the mountainside above the Lake of Brass. This position made Brazenthrone an effective base of communication to any living in the mountains, and provided easy access to trading routes across SomnumBrazenthrone was not technically a city-state, but a member of a loose confederation called the Kingdom of the Twelve Mountains, of which it was the capital and the seat of power.

One of the largest dwarven settlements in the known world, Brazenthrone boasted nearly 15,000 inhabitants within its storied halls. Most occupants were native Dwarven miners of the Snoutridge Mountains, but a noted Gnome population in the city affected its politics. There were a minority of other Smallfolk races as well: Brazenthrone considered itself a welcoming bastion of tolerance, though many outsiders found life in the mountain difficult and depressing. Despite being underground, the city was not dark, containing countless gnomish-made glowing orbs that float near the ceiling of every district.

Historically ruled by the Brasshand house, several changes to its system of governance were made after the Bending Of Brazenthrone, and it became ruled by Brufomura Brassbreaker.
