Elthys, also called the Elthysi Sovereign, was a Human-majority queendom in the southern Head of the Greatwyrm. Much of its climate was extremely cold, and most of the nation received little sunlight outside the northern Flat of Elaedh. The queendom was considered a strange and hostile place, lacking much arable land and subject to intense winter storms. Eastern Elthysi had to be wary of horrible monsters that wandered out of the Sea of Trees, and rumors abounded that its people engaged in ritual sacrifice and dark magic to merely survive.
Insulated from the Common League by the Jawstone Divide and Fort Verdane, Elthys resisted Common expansion during the Unholy Siege Of Fort Verdane. After this extremely costly battle, the Sovereign retained an uneasy peace with the republic, with no further incursions on its lands. However, they had no formal communication or trade with Commona or the Scycaen Imperium; ships that landed on Elthysi shores very rarely returned, and any attempts to contact its people were met with outright hostility.
Perhaps influenced by their difficult living conditions, Elthysi culture was considered strange by other Mortalkind. From birth, they were taught that they only lived to serve Elanyth Merellien, their "Queen Eterna" who had founded the nation. Her house Merellien was the singular source of power in the Sovereign, and had established the City of Merellien as the nation's capital. Those not born to house Merellien were assigned roles in life to best serve the queendom, and all settlements were stripped of resources to serve the capital.
Natives of the region spoke a different Language than Commoners, called Elthysi, with a script rooted in Elven base. The few who were allowed to learn to read typically did not learn the Common tongue, but Elven and Sylvan languages were occasionally taught.
