Located in southeastern Barovia, an old wooden gallows marked an important crossroad. The well-worn Old Svalich Road split here, and a signpost opposite the gallows pointed three directions: the Village of Barovia to the east, Tser Pool to the northwest, and Castle Ravenloft/Vallaki to the southwest. The northwest fork slanted down and disappeared into the trees, while the southwest fork went to an upward slope.
Across from the gallows, a low wall, crumbling in places, partially enclosed a small plot of eleven unmarked graves. The forgotten people buried here were hanged from these gallows, and their spectral influence was known to cause strange disturbances in the area.
