Stirges were parasitic Beastly fliers that resembled grotesque crosses between Bats and Mosquito, with leathery wings, sharp proboscises, and thin, spindly legs that ended in sharp pincers. Their bodies were covered in a layer of reddish-brown fur, and their eyes glowed with a predatory gleam. Though mammalian, stirges fed like mosquitos, attaching to living creatures and draining them slowly. When they latched onto a victim, their needle-like proboscises pierced through flesh to siphon significant amounts of blood.
Stirges typically lived in colonies, nesting in dark, damp places such as caves, abandoned buildings, and dense underbrush. They were nocturnal predators, emerging at dusk to hunt for warm-blooded creatures, guided by their acute sense of smell and heat detection. Their swarming nature made them particularly dangerous, as they overwhelmed victims with sheer numbers, exsanguinating their prey in a matter of seconds.
