Jackals were common desert canine Beasts, found in arid regions and extremely commonly around Scycae. With a lean body, tawny fur, and pointed ears, the jackal looked something like a mixture of a wild Fox and a domestic Dog. Like other canines their size, they were skilled at jumping and tracking by scent. Adapted to desert environs, they had low-light vision and often operated at night.
Jackals, like other small dogs, hunted in packs, of about one to six animals. They generally scavenged for their food unless hunting far smaller prey. They were not very brave animals and were not typically aggressive; when attacking head-on, they used their speed and numbers to harass and outmaneuver their foes.
Some desert tribes considered the jackal a natural example of swiftness and cunning.
