Oleg Barbu

Raised as a Sheep-herder in Krezk, Oleg was a happy child, but was kicked in the head by a Horse when he was young. This rendered the boy completely simple, but his new countenance also gave him an uncanny ability to handle animals, who utterly trusted his new nature. Not long after the incident, his parents died from illness, making his older brother Costel Barbu the de-facto caretaker of the Barbu Farmhouse. Despite Oleg's ability to commune with animals, Costel resented his dual responsibilities as shepherd and caregiver, and turned to wine to get him through the cold Barovian nights.

Costel was pained due to the infrequency of wine shipments from the Wizard of Wines, and left Krezk to find the winery. Oleg was left alone to tend the herd, but was regularly checked up on by Eugenija Fidatovna, who was worried how he would cope without Costel. However, after Ilya Krezkov's return from death, Krezk's Baroness Anna Krezkova began to manipulate the shepherd. Anna used her authority and Oleg's lack of intelligence to trick him into stealing his sheep, though Oleg did not notice, as he could not count the numbers in his flock.
