Yugoloths were a race of Fiendish mercenaries native to the Lower Realms, but were separate from Devils and Demons. They were neutral agents of evil, selling their services to the highest bidder; yugoloths maintained a strict hierarchy and were driven by ambition, contracts, and self-interest rather than ideology or loyalty. This self-serving ethos made them feared and distrusted by other fiendish races, but also indispensable to powerful beings in need of ruthless, efficient agents.
Physically, yugoloths varied greatly in appearance depending on their caste, appearing in forms that varied from pale featureless Mortalborn, crustacean-like foot soldiers, Jackal-headed mages, or hulking green winged devils. Despite these differences, all yugoloths shared fiendish resilience, magical resistance, and a natural ability to teleport across the planes. Their forms were chosen for function within the infernal mercenary structure they upheld.
Culturally, yugoloths valued hierarchy, cunning, and personal gain. Their society operated on deals, contracts, and betrayals, with more powerful yugoloths often manipulating lesser ones through fear or reward. While they could be found on many Lower Planes, their allegiance remained only to themselves.
