In Mystery Of Wistimere, the Marvelous Managerie became a site caught up in conspiracy and theft. The Vermin used contents they stole from the Menagerie to help prove the guilt of Perceval LaPall in unleashing Zombie Rot on the local Elf population, threatening Wistimere's safety. The Adventurers would end up killing LaPall in battle, and the Menagerie was kept in reserve by the town's magistrate for some time.
Located south in the river town of Wistimere on the banks of the River Wisting, the Marvelous Menagerie was the only true tourist attraction in town. Part zoo and part animal seller, the business built its fortune by capturing and trading in exotic beasts from far-flung jungles, mountains, and marshes. Its hunters roamed the wilds in search of creatures both feared and fancied, bringing back Saber-Toothed Tigers, brightly plumed Monkeys, strange and dangerous Snakes, and other rare curiosities.
From a grand warehouse by the docks, the menagerie displayed its living stock in gilded cages and reinforced pens, the air alive with roars, screeches, and the clatter of chains. Operating in some extent since near Wistimere's founding, the Menagerie changed hands several times, and had a history of unscrupulous owners.
Though it used the network of the broad and well-respected Fayan Trading Company, the Marvelous Menagerie was not without controversy. Residents of Wistimere reported escaped beasts prowling alleyways, and unsettling scents of musk and blood drifting across the waterfront. Still, nobles, collectors, and traveling troupes all came to Wistimere to bargain for these animals, turning the town into a hub for the trade in marvels of tooth, claw, and feather.
