Green slimes were acidic Oozes that clung to walls, ceilings, and other surfaces, waiting for unsuspecting prey to pass below. Bright green, damp, and sticky, they were sometimes mistaken for moss or other plant growths. Once disturbed, they would drop onto victims, dissolving flesh, armor, and weapons alike with their corrosive touch. They spread slowly, often covering an area of about five feet across, and could persist for years in forgotten tunnels or dungeons. Though vulnerable to fire, frost, sunlight, and Spells that cured disease, green slimes possessed spores that could remain dormant and eventually restore a colony even after it had been nearly destroyed.
These oozes thrived in dark, damp places such as abandoned halls, Underdark caverns, and the deep reaches of Lower Realms planes. Their diet encompassed all organic Substances, and they could also consume metal, leaving behind a stinking vapor of decay when feeding. Miners and adventurers considered them one of the worst hazards of underground exploration, and Dwarven miners in particular despised encountering them during excavation.
Rarely, green slimes formed colonies in great numbers, coating entire chambers with their corrosive presence.
