Scorpion

Scorpions were common predators of dry and broken lands, found in deserts, rocky wastes, and abandoned structures. They sheltered beneath stones, in shallow burrows, or within cracked walls, emerging mainly at night to hunt insects and other small Beasts. Their movements were slow and efficient, conserving energy until prey came close. In areas with little water, scorpions endured long dry periods and remained inactive during extreme heat.

Scorpions generally avoided conflict, and stung only when cornered or handled. They relied on venom delivered through a curved tail barb, used to subdue prey and for defense; the strength of this venom varied by species. Many caused intense pain and numbness, while a few carried toxins dangerous to larger animals or Humans. Travelers learned to check bedding and clothing, and some communities watched scorpion numbers as a sign of local conditions.

Scorpions also had practical significance. Their shells were used in Alchemy, and their venom was collected for various medicines, poisons, and ritual compounds.
