Waxing moonstone was a rare alchemical refinement of common moonstone, altered through careful treatment to emit true moonlight. Where ordinary specimens only held and reflected ambient radiance, waxing moonstone shone with a steady, pallid light that carried the same qualities as the moon itself. The process required precise distillation of reagents and prolonged exposure to controlled arcane forces. Few Alchemists mastered the method and even fewer had the ingredients to make it, so successes were scarce.
Lycanthropes exposed to a waxing moonstone's light were compelled to assume their Beast form and were reduced to bestial natures, regardless of the natural phase of the moon, and could be held in that state so long as the radiance endured. Other beings marked by moon-touched Curses, blessings, or transformations were similarly stirred or revealed beneath its glow. For this reason, waxing moonstone was sought by hunters, wardens, and certain priesthoods, and was exceedingly costly to obtain.
