James Holmes was born to a family of nobles who had been ruling Shoremond for generations. As a child, he was trained in the art of combat and leadership, and he excelled in both. He proved to be a fierce swordsman and strategist, and his natural talents were further honed by years of training under the tutelage of the best tutors and mentors. When he was twenty-five years old, he inherited the title of Lord of Shoremond from his father. James took his duties seriously, and he worked hard to protect his people and maintain order in his city. He was loved and respected by his people, who saw him as a just and fair ruler.
However, James made a grave mistake when he sent the majority of his city guard away to aid the Lady of Whitechapel. It was a decision that he would come to regret deeply. The force never arrived at Whitechapel, and it is still a mystery what happened to them. This left Shoremond undefended, and the Port Butchers, a notorious crime gang, took advantage of the situation and gained a strong foothold in the city. James was powerless to act. He couldn't send word for aid from his Baron or other lords, as the criminals kept watch on the roads. He was trapped in his own city, unable to do anything to stop the criminals from wreaking havoc and causing chaos. Eventually, James gave up and didn't want to risk his lordship. He was about to leave the city when a group of adventurers known as the Travellers arrived.
The adventurers took on the Port Butchers and managed to defeat them, freeing the city from their grip. James was grateful to the adventurers, and he was finally able to regain his full authority over Shoremond. He made sure to reward the adventurers for their help and vowed to never make the same mistake again. Despite his mistake, James remains a respected and admired lord. He has continued to work hard to protect his people, and he has taken steps to ensure that his city is never left undefended again. He is married to Lady Elena Holmes, and they have a strong and loving relationship. Together, they have worked to improve the lives of their people and make Shoremond a better and safer place to live.
Relations to the Lords and Baron.
James Holmes has mixed feelings towards the other lords and the baron of the Greenfield barony. He respects Lord Martin Winfield of Windelcrest for his diplomatic skills and strategic thinking. James believes that Lord Winfield's abilities are crucial to maintaining the balance of power in the barony. However, he sometimes finds Lord Winfield's cautious approach frustrating. Lady Emiliya Steinheart of Whitechapel, on the other hand, is not someone James trusts easily. He finds her cold demeanor and directness unsettling, but he acknowledges her sharp mind and expertise in matters of law and order. James knows that Lady Steinheart is a valuable ally.
James has a good relationship with Nikolay Von Keiner of Falktown, despite their different approaches to leadership. While James prefers a more hands-on approach to governance, Nikolay is more of a shrewd businessman. However, James respects Nikolay's skills as a cavalier and admires his willingness to innovate with firearms.
Lady Elenora Hamilton of Edgewater Port is someone James has little contact with, given that they come from different areas of expertise. However, he respects her skills as a naval commander and navigator, and understands the importance of maintaining good relations with her given Shoremond's location as a port city. As for the Baron Martin Shores, James has a complex relationship with his liege lord. He respects Martin's leadership abilities and acknowledges the importance of the Greenfield barony's stability to the region, but he sometimes disagrees with Martin's policies, especially when they affect Shoremond. Despite this, James knows that he must remain loyal to his baron and will support him when called upon.
