Geography
Zmejgrlo's geography is reminiscent of the arctic desert known as Neplodridovi, with vast plains of hardy grasses and shrubs covering much of the peninsula's interior. However, it is distinguished by the presence of steep cliffs along its eastern edge, which overlook the Mrtvachast strait and create a striking contrast to the otherwise flat landscape. These cliffs, which rise steeply from the sea, are often obscured by mist and fog, adding to their ominous nature and giving the peninsula an otherworldly appearance. Despite its harsh and barren terrain, Zmejgrlo is a place of rugged beauty, where the unforgiving landscape is a testament to the power and majesty of the natural world.
History
Zmejgrlo, or the Dragon's Throat, derives its name from the ancient myth surrounding the creation of the Mrtvachast strait. According to legend, a nameless Psoglavi hero once encountered a massive dragon that terrorized the land. In a fierce battle that shook the very foundations of the earth, the hero slew the dragon, causing its blood to spill onto the land. It is said that the Mrtvachast strait was formed from the dragon's throat, where its blood flowed and carved out the waterway that separates the land. The name Zmejgrlo serves as a reminder of this mythic battle and the forlorn pride of the Psoglavi people who, according to legend, once lived in harmony with dragons and other mythical beasts.
Yet, in Inis Mona the Fwoarian people have a similar tale. They say their ancestral spirit Unknown defeated a great beast of the sea there. Claiming its bones to make his legendary spear, Gae Bulg, before sundering the land apart and returning to his home in the Bulthron Delta region. None are sure why these tales parallel so easily or if either are true. Some brave souls suggest the name of Cú Chulainn, the hound, is much more literal than many would like. This tale also explains the name of the nearby Mrtvachast in Old Moni; Serpent's Way.
