Timeline of Sancstoryl
Era of the Gods
The Era of the Gods is the Era of many myths. Gods were still walking amongst mortals and change was an everyday occurrence. It is also said that the first civilizations of mortals were built during this time, under the careful guidance of the gods. The Era of the Gods came to a close when the different gods of the world started quarreling, endangering the mortals living on it, and ending in what is said to be a great war, which resulted in an unseen force moving the gods to the other planes of existence.
Era of Mysteries -12,000 — -2,300
Much of the history of the Era of Mysteries has been lost, as its name implies. Ancient ruins of sprawling cities, artifacts of significant power and myths that speak of heroes imply that it was an era of prosperity, magical innovation, and cultures that are even beyond modern sancstorylian's comprehension. However, something happened that made it all come crashing down, and not a single soul that is alive today can say what exactly happened. Elven royalty may have some records, but if they do, they refuse to divulge the information. The ancient greatwyrms that survived this era shudder at the thought and refuse to talk to anyone about the fall of the ancient civilizations of old. Only a few things can be said in confidence: Whatever destroyed the cultures of the Era of Mysteries resulted in the collapse in nearly all of civilization, to the point that the arts of writing and wizardry were lost for hundreds of years. It was the start of the isolation of many parts of the world, using the storm-lines and storm edges; of which, nowadays, only The Storm Edges remain.
Era of Ancient Kingdoms -2,300 — -675
Era of Contact -675 — 0
The Era that started when the people of Illiad first came into contact with the people of Sancstoryl, most notably the people of the Northlands and The Great Liwilai Empire. This relatively short era would eventually go on to usher a golden age for Sancstoryl, until it came crashing down during The Great Wasting.

First Illiadian Delegation makes its way to Sancstoryl
675 BWOn this day, the very first delegation of Illiadians, consisting of politicians, merchants and researchers, made its way to Sancstoryl, more specifically The Great Liwilai Empire. There, the people initially just thought that these travelers were merely from somewhere far away, like El-Batok... but no. When they showed off their technologies, and were eventually brought in front of the emperor, it became clear that these odd individuals not only came from another world, but also had many wonders that could make the life of the people of this world much easier.
This diplomatic mission was the first step in opening up proper Illiadian-Sancstorylian relations and ushered in the first Illiadian trade-opportunities and efforts for cultural exchange on Sancstoryl.
-
Great Peace of Liwilai
660 BWAfter experiencing 15 years of limited but world-changing trade with Illiad, The Great Liwilai Empire and the Northlands, two rivals who have warred for generations, sign their "Treaty of Mutual, Everlasting Peace", which, amongst other things, also phased out the practice of Slavery which was prominent in both countries.
This treaty was intended to be a clever ploy to attract the rather pacifistic, idealistic Illiadians to open up for more opportunities for trade and mutual exchange in both lands; and it worked. Soon, the governments of the Liwilai Empire, the Northlands and Illiad signed more treaties which would facilitate free trade and free movement of persons between the countries and even across worlds. Soon, Illiadians settled in Sancstorylian cities, while Sancstorylians would also go on to live and work on Illiad.
-
Githyanki-Raid on Rumas
630 BWIn the depths of the night, a large Githyanki raid party arrived from The Astral Plane on Sancstoryl and attacked the city of Rumas, the capital of The Great Liwilai Empire. By this time, Rumas had a sizeable Illiadian population, of which quite a handful were harmed and even killed. This was also the moment when The Great Liwilai Empire learned just how fortunate it was to have allied with the Illiadians. The moment the Illadians in Rumas were able to contact their homeworld, portals opened all over the city. Armored individuals and blisteringly fast, flying metal ships came pouring out of them, repelling the Githyanki attackers at an incredible speed.
A defensive military intervention to prevent more Illiadian loss of life was underway.
About as suddenly as it started, the Githyanki raid was stopped completely and utterly in its tracks by the Illiadians and their curious technologies and abilities. While the Illiadians did their best to avoid killing as many of their attackers as possible, the loss was nonetheless devastating for this particular raid party, and the survivors were sent with their tails between their legs back home to the Astral. Ever since then, it seems like the Githyanki have actively avoided raiding town on Sancstoryl proper, with only a few confirmed sightings in Sanctospace, and only near Sancstoryl or its moons when hunting Illithids. It is said that this embarrassing and devastating loss, even if it was only a simple raiding operation, was enough for Vlaakith, the Githyanki lich queen, to forbid her people to mess with Sancstoryl ever again. Even after the Illiadian loss of contact to their home during The Great Wasting, this order still seems to be in place.
This successful repelling of potential invaders and show of defensive power was apparently one of the many reasons why the Emperor of The Great Liwilai Empire would eventually go on to award the Illiadians with their own Land on Liwilaian soil in the near future.
-
A Gift of the Emperor
624 BWThe Emperor of The Great Liwilai Empire, after several decades of trade and cultural exchange which has benefited both Illiad and his empire, decides, during a diplomatic meeting, to award the Illiadians with their own land on Sancstoryl, to settle down on and establish a colony of some sort. The Illiadians, at first reluctant to accept due to their policy of True Illiadian Neutrality, eventually did come to an agreement with the Liwilai Empire, and they were awarded some unused, unsettled land in the western reaches of Liwilai. And while their policies of political neutrality and non-interference was still mostly in place, the establishment of the city-states of Argentis, Khrusia and Aesil soon resulted in a golden age of closer cooperation between the people of Illiad and the people of Liwilai where a ton of scientific progress as made, cultural exchange was facilitated, and even a long-lasting peace was established.
-
The Illiadian-Sancstorylian Exchange
610 BW - 0 BWThe next 600 years would be a proper golden age, known as the Illiadian-Sancstorylian Exchange. A proper partnership between the people of Illiad and the people of Sancstoryl had started. People from across both worlds traveled back and forth for work, enjoyment, and for research. Many incredible, new technologies, magics and scientific fields were explored, invented, and researched, trade opportunities in both worlds were realized to an incredible extend, and Liwilai was experiencing an unprecedented era of peace and prosperity, with the Illiadians as partners by their side... until the Great Wasting made it all come crashing down.
-
Loss of contact to Illiad
Year 0 - 1st day of the Great WastingOn the first day of The Great Wasting, most of the more dire effects that the Great Wasting would bring weren't obvious to anyone yet. The Illiadians in Argentis, Khrusia and Aesil would come to notice that their portal-devices, which allowed them to travel to Illiad and even contact their people on their homeworld, no longer functioned. This was initially seen as not a big problem, as the portal technology would have occasional hiccups and would usually be fixed within a day or two... This lack of alarm would eventually prove to be a mistake, as the separation of families who were on either side of the portal was the least of their problems...
-
Simultaneous Wasting Disease
Year 0 - 10th day of the Great WastingOn this day, all Illiadians, both young and old, became afflicted by a mysterious disease resembling Ha'zas Syndrome, the affliction that usually comes before the natural end of life for many Illiadians. The true Wasting has begun.
Even those that usually don't become afflicted with it, like Dorro or Shadow- and Light-Walkers experienced harsh symptoms, with the ethereal Walkers even retreating back into their Soul-Cores and falling into a slumber. Almost simultaneously, the entire Illiadian population of Sancstoryl fell unconscious and was writhing in pain... and soon, many of them would pass away...
-
Widespread Chaos and Panic on the continent of Liwilai
Year 0 - 12th day of the Great WastingThe simultaneous loss of consciousness of the many Illiadians that the people of the Great Liwilai Empire and the Northlands have been living alongside with quickly resulted in a mass panic. Many governments weren't able to consult their Illiadian experts, Illiadian machinery that people started relying on broke or stopped working due to being handled wrong, hospitals were overfilled with unconscious Illiadians, many of which would also die to the overwhelmed sancstorylian healers and medics panicking and not knowing what to do, and Sancstorylians with injuries and illnesses were no longer able to be treated.
With in just a short time, the problem of the Illiadians had become the problem of everyone.
-
Aesil burns
Year 0 - 17th day of the Great WastingAs the first survivors woke up in the in the Illiadian settlement of of Aesil, they would soon find out that the many deaths of their friends and families were the least of their worries... as, according to survivors, several Chromatic Dragons came out of nowhere, looted the remains of the city, killed quite a few survivors and burned much of it to the ground. Nobody is quite sure why these chromatics decided to attack the city now, and what exactly they were looking for, or if they were simply trying to expand their hoards. But the coordination between the different dragon types, which famously generally keep to themselves and bicker amongst themselves, has stumped scholars for ages.
-
Collapse of the Great Liwilai Empire
End of Year 0Eventually, the effects of the Great Wasting would lessen. Survivors would awaken to find themselves in a changed world... and would realize that they had their own inner energies depleted, with them also having lost a significant chunk of their lifespans... and any way to return home. While many survivors of the Illiadians that remained on Sancstoryl existed, who would and could at least try to keep some of the technologies and sciences they brought to Sancstoryl alive, it would not be enough to stop the chaos in the Northlands and the Great Liwilai Empire. Both would eventually collapse, as warlords and nobles would crown themselves kings of smaller dominions. And soon, wars would follow. With this, the Era of Contact came to a bloody close.
Post-Wasting Era < 0
The Era that started immediately after The Great Wasting and also ushered in the use of the Post-Wasting Calendar, which is still in use. It was marked by a lot of conflict in a world that was still reeling from the collapse after the Great Wasting, but also with the silver lining of the people of Sancstoryl and Illiad both rebuilding and healing.
-
Society rebuilds
1 PW - 100 PWWhile many wars would plague Liwilai in the coming years, and borders would be redrawn nearly every day, the people of the continent slowly rebuild their lifes with what they had left from the rubble. And while many things that made life easier in the past few centuries were lost, life nonetheless went on. The Illiadians themselves would mostly rebuild their lifes in the two settlements of theirs that remained, Argentis and Khrusia. And surprisingly... they would grow to surprising sizes.
-
The Argentian Republic is officially formed
144 PWThe amazing progress that the surviving Illiadians of Argentis showcased when rebuilding their society from the ground up inspired some surrounding local villages and townships to ask to be formally annexed to be better protected. This connection between villages and towns eventually was the birth of the The Argentian Republic. -
The Argentian Republic grows
150 PW - 700 PWAs the Argentian Republic grows in power in the area, more and more villages and towns decide to be peacefully annexed into the republic. And while some wars with neighbors would start here and there, with territory being both won and lost, the republic stood firm.
-
The Albian-Argentian War
740 - 744 PWThe Albian-Argentian war is one of Albia's first wars that it waged after it was formed by the unification of multiple smaller kingdoms on their southern part of the island. Confident that he could take on anything, the first king of unified Albia wanted to wage war against and annex Argentis, to gain benefits from the old Illiadian remnants of prosperity that were still present in the area. Quickly though, after initial military victories, he was able to find out just how in over his head was, when he tried to put the capital of Argentis under siege. No matter what he tried, he could never entirely cut off the flow of supplies to the city, and things quickly went south when out of nowhere, a particularly strong Quadrupedal Dorro managed to sink most of his navy.In the end, some island territory was ceded to Argentis, of what is now called the Topaz Isle, and Argentis quickly became very respected by its neighbors over the coming years, fully cementing its influence in the area.
Era of Travel and Discovery 800 — 1,500
The scars of The Great Wasting are finally properly healing, and things start to calm down on Liwilai for a bit. New innovations in ship-making, coupled with the slow disappearance of most of the last few Storm Lines that keep the world seas apart, slowly is starting to allow the people of Liwilai better and more ways to reach other continents and explore them to their hearts content.
-
Liwilaian ships reach the Storm Edges
~ 1100s PWAs more complex ship designs are starting to catch on, we finally get the first ships that can make long ocean-journeys without stopping; and those ship manage to travel to the other continents that previously were inaccessible. And eventually, the first ships from Liwilai manage to reach both of The Storm Edges, the storms at the edge of the world that have only been talked about in old stories.

-
Recreation of ancient technologies
Early 1500s PWSlowly but surely, a growing interest in the more academic and erudite sector of Liwilaian society resulted in research of old Illiadian and Great Liwilaian technologies, with more and more adventurers being sent into the bowels of ancient ruins. Eventually, a breakthrough was made, when a simple Ena-circuit was re-created, and then converted into a magical circuit, in the Institute of Ena and Magic in Argentis. The first steps towards a new great age of discovery and invention were made.
-
Argentis becomes an epicenter for trade and innovation
1700s PWAs time went on, Argentis quickly became a center for trade, innovation and re-invention. New discoveries by archeologists who explored old ruins and found old blueprints allowed for new magical and ena-based technologies, new inventions in magical items, and even the invention of new spells. The city of Argentis quickly becomes a hub for worldwide trade, and soon, even the Liwilai Adventurer's Guild would move their headquarters to the city..

Re-Creation of Mata
Early 2000s PWAfter nearly a millennium of the secrets to their constructions being lost, the people of Liwilai rediscover the way to create new Mata, by unearthing old blueprints. With time, these blueprints would even be modified by innovating artificers and wizards, giving rise to the Thrro, who were beloved by children and adults alike.
