HotSC Session 57

September 21, 2025

(Sooty's and Mikhail's downtime has been skipped for now, as their players weren't available)

We return to the Agate Seekers after their downtime, where they trained, amongst other things. They sit down in their home, newly renovated for their new Inn Rooms,  waiting for the first of their new, potential hires to come along. With a pretty unanimous decision, they also contacted one Rhaia Spotwind, the Feathren woman who had, a few times before, applied to the A Taste of Home, hiring her as a nightguard this time. The party received a small package back, with a thank you, as well as a small hand-carved statue of Dareth Lion'el Griffmane, commemorating their last spar.

That's when the door opened... and not an interviewee, but the familiar face of Zora came waltzing in, with her dog Maya in tow. After some greetings and news were shared amongst Zora and the party, she joined them for the interviews.

First came those applying for a position as a housekeeper. First amongst those was a Earth-Genasi called Turf, who came from an unknown village in the mountains, somewhere to the east, near a rift to the Elemental Plane of Earth. She left that village in the company of a man she fell in love with, ending up in Argentis, but that relationship didn't last. And now she needs a job. Volk Lesnoy was interested in her quite a bit, but the party eventually decided against hiring her when she admitted to stealing some money from her ex when they split.

Next up was a human woman from the Royal Union of Albia, Galon and Wanil called Eunice Galway, who had some experience as a cleaner on a merchant ship. In the conversation, it did evnetually come up that she actually used to work for Five Breaths Ltd., together with her husband who was an accountant, but they decided to quit and leave for Argentis, despite being quite terrified of their CEO Ione Plutarch; honestly, she was surprised that she allowed her to go. While the party was intrigued by her skills, she was eventually passed over due to her connections to Five Breaths Ltd., and Philomena Snapdragon's little incident with them, as the party didn't want to risk spies or to put attention on themselves by hiring her.

In the end, the party decided on hiring a person called Nyaltad Lilovyre; a, surprisingly, Gamma Feda-Lide of green Dragonborn descent. They had only very recently turned into a Feda-Lide, killed by an assassin hired by their ex-spouse so that they could gain access to their family fortune. However, Nyaltad came back to life after he slit their throat and stole his soul, and their partner put behind bars. Now they intend to start anew after giving away much of their family fortune, and being one of the few recognized Feda-Lide citizens of The Argentian Republic. Volk was able to relate to them, though they at first though that he was making fun of them, before they noticed that they couldn't detect their soul.

Next up came the potential Inn-Managers.

The first was Elara Voss, a Human woman from the Lordship of Sachsa in the Grenwal Confederate Empire. After making some pleasantries and talking to the party, she talked a lot about her education and training in management positions, and while she doesn't have any practical experience yet, she hoped she would find it here. She was also a bit surprised about Kilbi Leaftooth, but only because she has been to the Free City of Mittburg before and found the local Kobold cuisine a bit odd.

Next came Thalryn Noctis, a well-dressed and well-mannered Shadow-Walker with a moonlight-aspect. Thalryn worked for 20 years in a famous, upper-class Tavern and Inn in Victé, the Amber Coronet, for 20 years before deciding to find a new job in the city of Argentis, and the A Taste of Home seemed interesting to him.

And last but not least, a cheery but kind of nervous and inexperienced Söpökin called Arnes. While he was friendly and kind, as well as open to experience new things and happy and eager to learn, it was very clear that he was very young for his race, and didn't have a solid grasp on how a job is supposed to work yet, as he expected the housekeeping chores that he learned under his mother to help him with this job.

The party eventually decided on Thalryn after a short discussion, where Arnes sadly immediately was taken out of the consideration. The party then continued to talk amongst themselves, about the offensiveness of saying outloud how some races are "exotic", when suddenly, a scream was heard further down the street. Volk went on to investigate, followed by Philomena, Zora and Dareth. There, they saw one of the local shopkeepers wrestling with what appeared to be animated bear-traps.

A fight is had, and Philomena does get badly hurt, but the party is able to destroy these bear traps quite handedly, and as thanks the shopkeeper handed over a pair of, what appears to be, magical eyeglasses; a pair of Eyes of Minute Seeing.

SESSION END.
