For a history detailing the downfall of the original city and subsequent rise of New Amet, read the entry of Amet. New Amet is now a capitalist paradise ran by its corporations, the largest of which being the megacorp Ego Ultd. and is known as the city that never sleeps, because of the inhuman hours demanded by the corporations from their employees which results in a constant bustle of activity throughout the city. Inhabitants of the sprawl also joke the nickname is based on the ubiquitous presence of illusionary neon advertisement billboards making sleep impossible.
Most of New Amet's inhabitants are human which includes a large population of fey-touched immigrants from Xi'lan. Other notable population groups include descendants of the Elves who fought alongside humanity in The Reckoning and Tieflings who descended from the Devils who signed a deal with The Circle of Kiral at the end of The Reckoning.
The metropolis effectively exists out of multiple very different cities mostly divided on their inhabitant's economic status. The law in the city is upheld by a combination of The Circle of Kiral who fight a losing battle to keep the corporations in check, and corporate security who keep the rest of the population under control and productive.
The Sprawl: The largest portion of the city, sprawling housing and infrastructure as far as the eye can see. This is where the lowest employees of the corporations live as well as those outside the corporation infrastructure who eek out a living fulfilling a niche they don't provide. Even within the Sprawl there are vast differences ranging from the relatively civil employee housing projects near the corporations' headquarters to the downright dangerous slums on the edges.
Universitas campus: Headquarters of Ego Ultd. and its subsidiaries. This is a circular walled city within the city proper. Access is strictly controlled and limited to employees. Houses mid level to high level employees in its living towers. The rest of the district is filled with offices, laboratories and of course their famed spelljammer docks.
Kasumigaura: An enclave in the center of the sprawl floating atop a lake. Over the centuries the enclave has evolved into a giant mass of apartments and stores towering an impressive 10-11 stories tall. Kasumigaura has historically been mostly free from corporation influences and is known as a den of lawlessness and criminality. It is home to more than a few Yaokazi gangs who keep a tight grip on their own little parts of the enclave as well as offer products and services illegal or controlled in the rest of the city.
Suburbs: outside the ever expanding sprawl there are the every moving surburbs, small farming compounds of disfavored corpo employees and debt-slaves providing the backbreaking work needed to feed the masses.
