Orc

Origin: Orcs are a result of the Elvar's use of dark Jesnite magic to transform captured Faelin prisoners of war into a new race. For more information, see Savagefolk and/or Creation of the Orcs

Language: Vorntusk

Culture: Their culture emphasizes elements such as honor, loyalty, and resilience in the face of adversity.  However, intellect amongst orcs is often interpreted as a sign of weakness or insecurity, since failing to act immediately shows doubt in your strength and instincts.  The orcish culture tends to enable impulsiveness and violence.  Disputes are often solved via fair fist fights.

Lifestyle: Orcs lead a tribal lifestyle, forming communities and settlements that provide security and support. They are likely to have a close-knit society where strength, prowess in combat, and survival skills are highly valued.

More Information

The Orcs were originally created from the Faelin of Arindor.  They are the oldest Savagefolk race.  This means that the Elvar had the most time to perfect the transformation process, and then also many generations of selective breeding to further guide their development.  They are the most intelligent and organized race of Savagefolk, and the only one that is approaching anything resembling a society or civilization.  Most Half-savages have Orc blood.

Today, tribes of Orcs can be found almost anywhere in the world, and are generally seen as a pest by other mortals who live nearby.

In Orc culture, if someone can kick your ass, then they are your leader.  The orcs live in tribes of a few hundred individuals, sometimes 'domesticating' other types of Savagefolk.  In some areas, they have established trade and barter with other races, begun to grow food, and domesticate livestock.

Their culture is warlike and brutal.  Your worth in life is derived only from your ability to provide for your tribe. If you can't contribute, then you don't deserve to be carried.  If someone thinks you're getting useless, they'll pick a fight with you to see if you suck at fighting or not.  If the elders think you suck at fighting, then once the fight is declared over with, they give the order to have you beaten to death.  As you can imagine, 'elders' don't last very long, because the older, wiser ones are also not very likely to fight good.  Further, when disagreements occur, it doesn't necessarily matter who is in the right.  Each side of the argument produces a champion, and the champions engage in a fair fist fight.  The winner of the fight wins the argument (no compromise!) and everyone accepts it and moves on with their lives.  Or else.

Orcs can interbreed with humans.  In all honesty, that probably most commonly happens when a male orc gets his hands on a human woman, to put it lightly. Their offspring have their own page: Half-savage

Orcs can interbreed with other Savagefolk.  A female orc would not typically be attracted to something smaller and unable to defend her and her children.  A male orc might get seduced by a clever female, but he would be shamed for it and viewed as taking advantage of someone smaller and weaker than him.
